Immersive sound addition plans?

Post by VipersGhost »

So the sounds for 607 are pretty slick I must say...very well done!! I just had a question or two.

1-Are there any plans to include a sound when you are running and maybe walking, like the rustling of your gear?

2-Also I've heard some guys mention bullet zings, as in when a bullet flies near you it would make a sound. Not sure if that is actually real but it sure sounds cool, like a Saving Private Ryan effect when they are storming the beach.

3-Environmental sounds? Like the wind blowing...crows? Just any cheap sound seems like it'd be quite immersive addon.

Anyways...just some thoughts for the sound dev Jaymz. Awesome work!!

(You know...it'd be cool to see a Deer or rabbit once in a while...lol)

edit- Ah damn...I'm sure some of these have been requested before and I forgot to search. Eitherway I think the rabbit idea warrents a new posting ;)

1. They have the rustling gear sound

2. There are bullet cracks. Bullets "whooshes" are unrealistic. How could you not of heard the bullet cracks in the game yet?? (Unless you havent played it yet)

3. Theres alot of enviornmental sounds.

1. I like the rustling of gear idea, it's already ingame but only to an extent.

2. Sofad incorporated super sonic bullet cracks a while back so whenever a round passes by you you will hear a loud SNAP or CRACK! (which is what you hear in real life).

3. Environmental sounds are added individually to each map. If you turn up your speakers/headphones you will hear them better, but then weaponary will be very loud (which it is in real life :p ).

I think you should make a-10 and other jet cockpits more silent. Now when ur in cockpit it sounds that ur right next to engine. IRL they are very silent.

Been discussed before, the BF2 engine doesn't allow us to make "sound proof" cockpits. What I do if I'm flying is, I get in the jet/helicopter and then, while the engine is starting up I turn down my effects volume to about 5% or so. Just look at it like closing the cockpit ;)

this wont happen.

one of the first things i did when starting to work for PR (for 0.4 i think) was to create all new movement sounds with no annoying gear clacker in normal move and alot less in sprint.

in RL soldiers are sneaky ******** wich have their gear strapped to not make any unnecessary noise imo.

Yes, new sounds in 0.6. Except for the MEC pistol so there is some variety. Previously all pistols used the same sound. On a side note, pistols don't sound all that powerful in real life outdoors. I went shooting a few days before I worked on the new 9mm sound and the colt I shot sounded very much like a sharp clapping sound. Indoors however, is a different story.

Do you mean going to the audio option in the main menu and turning it down?

If so how do I do this while in game?

Press "Esc", go to audio options, turn down "effects volume". It won't affect your VOIP volume at all.

If I press Esc do i just reconnect to the server on the server listing menu?

I didn't know I could do this, before I always disconnected and rejoined after I changed my settings.

Sometimes I have to use headphones and the .6 sound make me feel like I'm going to go deaf

NO NO NO  :p If you press escape in game you will go to the menu where you can change your audio settings. Just press esc again after applying the sttings and you will be back in game. The only thing you can't change in game is your video settings.

Back on topic!

The tanks sounded good, but now, GREAT!..

The way the sound rolls back at you when you hit an enemy tank.. WOW!!

And yes, the sound of the bullets flying by you are spot on, just like the real thing  (okay, the G3 anyway, but guess they all sound more or less the same).
