Spent cartriges.
OK people have mentioned this before, but when they do the answer is usually "let them work on the bigger more important things first." But i have been playing PR since 0.2 and it still is'nt on.
My suggestion is simple and effective in my opinion.
Can we have it so when we shoot of rounds the shells actually stay on the floor, at least for 5 minutes or so. So that when a fire fight has happened we get some satisfaction afterwards. I don't know much about modding that's why i haven't done it my self but i would guess there is some script where you can turn up the time the shells stay on the floor. They already do that but dissapear instantly. Shouldn't be too hard i would guess. Add new bullet skins if you want them to look cooler.
People mention lag, i don't think that it would personally create a lot of lag. If that is the case though have it correlate with the graphics settings. can you not? EG: people with high graphics see the shells longer than people with low.
The shells stayed on the floor for a while in Halo and also in counterstrike and it looked great and didn't lag my crappy pc.
As well as the obvious realism, If you come across some enemy shells ( being one half is 5.56 and the others are usually 7.62) would be like a way of tracking sort of speak :-/ like oh look some n00b has wasted a mag and must be close.
Anyway its not exactly alone going to put PR amongst the gods of mods but just a idea that keeps annoying me. It is now 2:45 in the morning and i am very tired. If the above is a load of rubbish dont flame me lol.

I really dont think it would cause that much, like i said halo and CSS are games for older computers and it works fine, im not asking for them to stay for all round just a few minutes then dissapear like normal.
Plus if they do it in correlation with graphics settings there should be no problem at all.
Shove it in the next open beta see what people say, If they think it sucks take it out simple. Just been wanting to try this for ages now.

Shouldn't take long to code, should just be able to turn the time limit up on one of the python files. (again never modded just a guess)

How many times have you played the game with bullets that stay on the ground for a long perioid of time? Since it looks like you know what you are talking about, and you might be right, but how do you really know?
This is definitely one of those small things that would make the game better.

I like it. It'd look awesome. Plus, just imagine how cool being under a Blackhawk that's opening up with the minigun would be?
Lag shouldn't be a problem, the LOD could easily fix that so you only see so many at a time. And a simple change in their life span would make them stay, so adding them wouldn't take that long.
I see no reason why this shouldn't be added.

Think about it. Lets take a typical firefight between 2 6 man squads. Assume they have a support weapon. They'll probubly expend half a magazine or more worth of ammo, thats 15 cases per guy with a rifle, plus probubly around 75+ rounds for the support weapon if he's firing in bursts to suppress the enemy. Thats 300 cartrage cases per firefight. Now make that 10 6 man squads (5 per side on a 64 player server, more or less) continually exchanging fire. Thats a lot of cases, meaning a lot of polys, meaning a lot of lag.
Also, add in weapons like the minigun, vulcan AA gun and the quad barrel ack-ack gun. They spit out ammo and so cases like theres no tomorrow.
Overall ammo expenditure is a lot higher in PR than in a game like CS:S or Halo. And in those games they're not permanent features once they're fired. Also, CS:S and Halo rounds are a lot shorter than PR ones, so they wouldn't have nearly the same build up of cases as you would get in PR.
Basically, yes, it would be cool but its not a workable one from a performance point of view.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

yes, to much lag, we were talking about this over at battlefield korea when testing the beta, but the thing is that when you have everyone shooting the guns and cartridges going all over the place, sooner or later the polys will add up to tanks, planes, and trucks, creating alot of lag, so you can extend the time to maybe at the most a min, but thats pointless, so why do it.

why is it pointless? It looks cool, and though that doesn't sound like it's really important but small stuff like this make the game better.
Maybe just make them stay for 1 or 2 mins and see how it affects lag, or then make it so that with low graphics they disappear instantly. (that is possible to do, right?)

The cases disappear instantly now, dont they?
Maybe 10-20 seconds would be better?
But who spends their time looking down?
Im not crapping on this suggestion, for those of you who have been for a few weeks, and think its all I do (Viperghost).
Its just for people who come on a complain about performance and how shit the mod is because of that problem, it might not be such a good idea after all.

well im only suggesting a few mins on the floor. As long as the corpses last for example. Shove the idea in the next open Beta if everyone crys because of lag take it out.
If anyone does know how to turn the time they stay on the floor up can you please tell me, so i can do it myself if it does not get officially implemented.
Cheers guys.

Yeah, imagine x amount APCs firing the main gun, x amount of machine guns firing, and x amount of players firing handheld weapons. That would equal so much shell cases it's not even funny, lol.Bob_Marley wrote:Think about it. Lets take a typical firefight between 2 6 man squads. Assume they have a support weapon. mortar thingys probably take hundreds of manhours to do. (just a guess)Xmaster wrote:Id rather have a bunch of new cool features such as mortars and whatnot than stupid shell casing lying on the ground.
my 0.02$
This thing might take around 30mins if it really is just a value that you need to tweak in one file.
