New PR Audio

Post by xseeyax »

I dont know about anyone else but I've gotton myself killed because I cant tell the difference between close enemy shooting or long enemy shooting IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME. Now I understand that war is loud and all but is there anyway to make the distance sound difference like as the range gets longer the sounds are more like echoes and distant pops or cracks rather then the same sound? I cant really explain it but the only way I can tell you is play battlefield2 on the 360 Now I know its a REALLY GAY game compared to pr or even vanilla but it has awsome sounds, range wise. Please think it over.

Here's a vid of British forces fighting insurgents. Listen to the long distance pops and echoes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FcXWZ0X ... ed&search= Something like this would sound great!

Are playing the Beta?? If so you must have a crappy sound system. The new sounds are extremly more dynamic, and gunshots/explosions/rockets being fired/etc all sound AWESOME from a distance. I am hearing the exact opposite of you. I loved when I heard the first Explosion in the beta that was 1000M away, it sounded awesome on my 5.1 sound system. Had an eiery (sp?) kind of sound/feel to it.

no I do not have a crappy audio system and I'm not talking bout the explosions. I'm talking about the gunfire. To me I dont know about anyone else but the guns sound the same no difference if its 10 feet away or 100. I dont know if I have something in my audio messed up or what but it doesn't sound like distant fire.

GF2 limitations. I have SB Audigy and use hardware/high/eax settings myself. This distancing can be a problem.

Its always obvious to me that the guy is shooting from the N.. NNE.. NE etc.

I use headphones though, so its more obvious. Try headphones? I mean heck, I'm using an onboard mobo sound thing, and i can EASY tell the distance and exact direct of gun shots, explosions, vehicles etc.

I think it has changed since the first OB.
I have an average headset and an onboard sound card and I had the same problem in the first release but I have not noticed it as much in .607rc1.

Yeah I dont know what the problem is but it sounds the same from 5 to 100 meters away and I dont know what a SB audigy is or whatever so I dont know, if anyone else has any pointers please tell me.

If you don't know what a SB Audigy is, then I'm hard pressed to believe you when you say "No, I don't have a crappy sound system" in your response to my post. I have an X-Fi pro sound card, and with sounds on the "ultra high" setting and the bass cranked up, the sounds are amazing. I can hear footsteps coming from behind me if I'm being real quite. and I can judge the distance of enemy soldiers as well from their gunshots.

An SB Audigy lets you enable a Sound Blaster exclusive feature call eax (see the box in your audio options). Enabling this without a SB cards will still work but will be slightly dodgy. However, I recommend enabling it anyways.

What does eax do? It's different depending on the game. In BF2 it adds air dissipation (creating better sound fades), sound obstruction (objects filter sounds), indoor reverb and a few other things.

Even without this enable d though there should still be a significant volume drop between 5-100meters.........

The latest tweaks in 607 improved this a lot.

i have the same problem i corrected it by setting my SB Audigy to software render audio instead of hardware in the audio control console of PR.

let me know if it works for you.

Isn't this partly due to some hardcoded stuff? Something about a linear decrease or something.

Thanks guys for all your pointers, I dont really know about audio but do know stuff about computers, my bro knows alot so I'll see if I can figure it out. Plus I do have the eax or whatever checked so.. all I know is all the shots sound the same too me...Sucks

Just try using hardware settings. If that doesn't work try software. All I know is that there should definitely be a volume decrease in the distances you mentioned.

Actually, i'm with op on this one.

I could tell the direction of the sounds, but something 100 feet away sounded like something 10 feet away.

It just started in 0.6, it was fine in 0.5.

I think I know what you're talking about with the sounds.

Is your sound card built onto your motherboard or is it a separate sound card?

If it's separate, choose "Hardware" in Audio. If it's built onto the motherboard, choose "Software".

When I had my Audigy2 soundcard and didn't choose Hardware, the sound was fairly poor. Because that card was a separate device, I used that Hardware option.

Now that I have a new motherboard with on-board audio, I have to choose Software. If I continue to choose Hardware I will hear every sound on the map in full blast...as if it's right on top of me.

I had that problem in Operation Flashpoint when I had EAX on in Hardware settings. Try to change the settings to Software and no EAX and that should work.

There were funny things about that issue in OFP. I could shot a round in a city that was 2km far and could hear the bullet hiting something.

Funny thing, I made a note of this yesterday in a couple of games and some of the others seemed to agree - the problem isn't figuring out which direction the sound came from, but the fact that distant sounds are very easy to confuse for nearby sounds.

In a round of Seven Gates, for example, I was constantly mistaking gunfire eminating from the River Fort as "enemies in the woods nearby" while my squad was going the long way around from the west. It can be very disorienting when you can't be sure if there are enemies nearby or not (it sounds like there are, when in reality they could be a kilometer away, so to speak).

I'm using an Audigy connected to a 5.1 speaker system myself, with hardware / EAX enabled.

Oh man, just to gloat...X-Fi Platinum with Logitech full on THX 5.1 surround (not the cheapo version) with full bass. The sound is to be honest...insane. When I'm on the oil fields laying with the squadies waiting for the tanks to kill everything and listening to the shells fired back and forth by the tanks. WOW...its sick...the best sound effects in total I've ever heard in a game. When I get in a big fire fights and bunkers are getting blown up etc...its just wild. Sound detection is easy...I love how the guns echo through the woods. I can hear the warriors running through mestia way ahead of time and radio to the sqaudies to set up the old militia ambush. It just works so well....I mean I can hear guys yelling at each other, saying "Thank you" to their medic after they get revived heal and I pop over the ridge to blast them.
