The dreaded pilot SMG thread.

Post by Butmonkey »

I know this thread has been posted a dozen times before, but I may have a solution that may be possible.

The problem is they want chopper pilots to have a SMG and a jet pilot to have a pistol. Now Would I be correct in assuming that in a chopper the pilot doesn't actually carry a smg on him, but it is in the chopper? Thus if he was to bail he would loose it.

Sometimes when a chopper is destroyed the wreck will manage to hit the ground and survive. Would it be possible to make the wreck a 1 kit request zone.

Basically if the helicopter pilot bails, the chopper crashes, he can request a 2nd kit from the chopper that a smg, but no parachute. I know SL and commanders have different T menus from grunts, is it possible that the pilot has a different type or is it hardcoded? Failing that would it be possible to make it so the pilot could request any kit from the wreck but no matter what the request they are given the 2nd pilot kit?

I realise there have been several of these threads in the past, all were pretty heated. However none of them suggested a way to separate chopper from jet. This suggestion gives the pilot a smg, if he can get to the wreck of his chopper. Is this achievable? or hardcoded?

Or the pilot could get his *** away from the wreck before the infantry forces come to investigate and shoot him.

Think it could work but I do not know if anyone in the dev team would think the effort would be worth it currently. One could also do separate kits for chopper and aircraft pilots but that would also have a bad ratio of benefit vs cost as I see it.

The only benefit I see from the 2 kits solution would be that the Helo pilots would be also not equipped with a chute.

Does this much effort justify those pilots who cant keep a chopper in the air? :) just my thoughts.

i think pilots only with a pistol, keeps pilots IN THE AIR, where they should be, and makes them scared if they are shot out of the air in enemy territory, as it should be.

if pilot got an SMG alot more people would request the kit just for the hell of it, something I dont think is a good thing for the mod.

My vote is keep ALL pilots with just a pistol, it keeps their job very specialised and makes them fear being on foot in unknown area.

What if you make two kits? One for a fixed wing with a pistol, and one for a rotary aircraft--SMG.

It would need 2 + kits for it and its not worth the devs time, pilots stay in the air. I normally go down with my bird.

Actually US chopper pilots DONOT carry SMGs they carry a M4 in the cockpit. As for other armies im not sure. But pistols for jet pilots is realistic.

No need for anything else than a pistol...i rather enjoy the situations where i have to hide from soldiers searching for me at the crash site.
I normally wait until they think there are no survivors and then try to kill one very sneaky. Once he is dead i pick up his weapon...and fight my way back to the airfield.

Can already see people crash landing the helicopter and requesting a sniper kit out of it and go lone wolfing :/

Well, how about having only 2 mags of ammo for the SMG and iron sights? Dont think, pilots would be useful in ground combat with that on maps like Kashan

Does Owen Wilson get an SMG? No, he picks one up.

I suggested this a while back -- chopper wrecks spawn the weapon and you just hit G to pick it up.

well the 2 kit idea is good, one for airplanes and one for choppers. But it would take some work and wouldn't really change the game that much.
Then we could have it so that the helo pilots wouldn't have parachutes, but they would have some kind of a weapon for self defence.

Would be more realistic, would be more fun, but probably isn't worth it.

So, a Cobra pilot gets the same kit as a BH pilot?

why in hell a guy will choose to kill with a smg if he can drop bombs , launch missils ,etc?

I dont agree with this idea either but i think it'd be good if the h-at kit could have an smg with limited ammo 2-3 mags or somthin.
