Realistic Reloads

Many games, including Battlefield 2, do not use proper reload animations. By that I mean:

-If a round is still in the weapons chamber (unfired), and reloaded, then the cocking handle should not be re-cocked. The only excpetions to this would be for example the M249, which is usually belt-fed, and requires cocking each reload. This sort of reload is usually reffered to as "Tactical Reloads", because of the reduction in time of reloading, due to no recocking of the weapon.

Only one game I have played so far achieves this, that of Rainbow Six. Maybe some other games have it, please let me know.

Anyway, this would greatly improve a realism mod

Thanks for hearing me out

Stu

edit: I would also love to see the L86A2, which is the LMG varient of the L85.

I shot the gas version of this at a SATS Electronic target range, and hell why do they call them "Light" machine guns. Its damn heavy.

Thats what we love about LSW, as they have a heavy barrel its more roboust, and is easier to throw around. They are great to fire though! I have to admit though, carrying one around without a sling must be murder!

Call Of Duty 2 has this as well... I just noticed it today :D

I don't think the "Light" designation has anything to do with the weight of the weapon itself, complain under the Trade Descriptions Act haha! Anyway, it's down to the calibre it fires, which is a "light" round. I think it becomes "heavy" when it's .50 and above. Having said that the only smaller round I know (rifle wise, not pistol rounds) is 7.62 that's used in LMG's. It'd be interesting to see how the 8.6mm we use in the L115A1 sniper rifle performs in a machine gun mind. I'd hate to be the one it's tested against!

Proper reload animations may be possible, but actually implementing it so that the rounds aren't wasted (with the automatic and semi-automatic weapons) is a different story, unfortunately. EA/DICE didn't design their engine with that amount of realism in mind.

The LSW is a possibility, yes.

Actually, the classification of Light Machine Gun does refer, in part, to its weight. Light machineguns are those which can be carried and operated by one man (hip or bipod, sometimes shoulder-fired) and fire an intermediate (5.56mm / 5.45mm, 7.62 x 39mm) or full-sized (7.62 x 51 or 54mm) rifle cartridge. This includes the sub-classification of automatic rifles, which are squad level base-of-fire weapons (again, hip, shoulder or bipod) that may or may not be belt fed or have quick-change barrels.

Medium machineguns fire a full-sized rifle cartridge, are intended to be used from a mount (tripod or vehicle) for sustained fire and are crew serviced. Depending on unit-specific TO&E, an MG team is comprised of a gunner and one or two riflemen to assist him in changing barrels, reloading, local security and carrying additional ammunition and barrels.

General purpose machineguns fire full-sized cartridges and can be quickly converted between the light and medium role.

And of course, heavy machineguns are crew-serviced, must be fired from a ground or vehicle mount and fire large cartridges (12.7mm). A belt-fed automatic weapon using a cartridge above 14.5mm (that isn't a grenade launcher) is usually classified as an automatic cannon.

Reloading immobilizes the soldier for rifles, LMGs and other "heavy" systems, PLEASE. The Run and Gun would be over in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure you can at least reload an assault rifle while walking.

But what i'm sure off, you can't reload a gun while bunnyhopping :)

In the Rainbow series when running you had a large spread area. Is it possible to add a bigger spread cone while jumping? Or at least you should be able to hit everything around but not the center.

The SAW is a LMG and uses the 5.56x45mm NATO round.
The M240 is a GPMG and uses the 7.62x51mm Nato Round.
The M2 is a HMG and uses the .50 BMG round.

i agree with enforcer, but the spray cone is already larger when you run. the problem is that recoil cant be tied to stance in the BF2 engine i dont think. also no matter what, when youre scoped in or using the iron sights, your accuracy/spray cone is the same when moving and standing still.

But as far as reloading you can definitely reload rifles on the run, though maybe slower, machineguns i dont think so, but theres no reason to be running and reloading when you know that 1-2 shots from an enemy weapon is going to kill you.

Deviation is tied to stance. I found a page where the data is listed.

recoil and deviation are different things

Hello,

Has anyone noticed that PR SA80s are cocked with the right, whereas they should be cocked with the left?

Yes, that's been discussed before, but we lack animators to fix it.

Indeed it is, but if you look closely at the DATE of the OP...

I guess JBHA did search, but missed the part (read it somewhere, can't remember) where they actually said the devs know about it and it pisses them off too.

[EDIT]JBHA, for future reference, if you check this thread (it's the big red one at the top of this forum) it has a big long list of the most common suggestions. 90% of the time that will be able to tell you more accurately than a search whether an idea has been sugg'd. The search should be used anyway if you don't see it but it's often harder to find anything relevant on a search.
