Support UH-60

Post by Greenie Beanie »

I think on helicopter maps there should be at least one UH-60 designated to support functions.
It could be 2 man (a pilot n dude in the back). The pilots job is to soley fly the helo, whereas the dude in the back has the firemode of dropping a supply crate of some kind (a remodelled version of the current bf2 one, looking more like a couple boxes or something).
These supply crates could contain a limited kit or 2 (such as LAT etc), aswell as plentyfull ammunition.

This would be a good function for defending squads/SF teams/AT teams etc and would add another aspect of teamplay to the mod.

YES i did search

I like this idea alot, but maybe on bigger maps like Kashan their should be a Repair Bhawk.

Yea it would have to be a big map to justify the time to get a chopper to the players location verses the time to just go back to base to get it. But for a map like kashan i could really see this working well.

But im sure the devs have much higher priority things to do first. Not a bad idea at all though.

Would this kind of thing happen is real life at all though? Do Blackhawks normally do supply runs for front line troops?

waste of energy, blackhawk's are big targets and can easily be shot down by enemy aircraft cannon's... without even knowing the aircraft is there... he releases the furious power of his Chain gun and 1 millisecond later your all dead..

Commander's already has a Supply create function, which works slow but just perfectly fine, besides that you got support vehicles,, us has the Humvee, Brits has the Support rover and the pla/mec has same vehicle i belive just dont know the name...

and about your other tread " artillery " they are working on adding a mortar system ingame, but probaly wont see it untill .7 release or .8...
Artillery overall is realistic, but the way BF2 made it is not... if there was to be a Stationary or Mobile Artillery, it should take atleast 2-3 guys to control it, " mobile " Gunner & Driver, and a Spotter stationary " Gunner, Spotter "

The map does not necassarily have to be small, just big enough for helicopters. Soldiers cannot always return to base to rearm and resupply, they may have a position that needs defending and cant be simply left for the enemy. When defending soldiers, may use alot of AT4s and 203s which the soldiers ammo bags may not be able to facilitate.

The period it takes a resupply HMMWV to get to a defensive point is often too long and precious time without grenades and rockets is being wasted. Plus the HMMWVs cant navigate all terrain.

I aint suggesting this has a high priority suggestion but it is something that can be looked at in the future

AFAIK its fairly common in firefights where enough ammo is spent.

i do like this idea, and would be even better with a Chinook, which might be entered as someone is already modeling it. People are right to say there is a supply crate function, but its SO DUMP.

the idea of a single crate falling from the sky and taking 5 minutes to reach ground is stupid. with the idea of this supply thing then the crates could be dropped from certain altitudes depending on the danger and terrain, to allow for a quicker turn around, shortening the time of the game which is considerably long on maps such as kashan because of lack of accessible supplies, which discourages troops going out to hard to reach areas.

This happens all the time although the role is normal filled by Chinooks as they can do more than one payload drop on a single flight plan. The UH-60 is often used to transport 105 arty pieces, so it would no be a weight issue. However tranporting such wait greatly affects flying. I'd would be great if it was a single kit that the Uh-60 has to get at the resupply pad.

This would also be a great role for the Osprey when it comes out.

A supply BH would be cool.
The BH may have guns but no seats for them. one of the seats could have a Crate Spawn weapon, that reloads at main.
