You do realize that the GeForce 6200 is based on the NV43 GPU (GeForce 6600) but with most of that chips rendering power disabled for cost considerations (they've opted to omit color or Z-compression in the memory controller and halved the 6600's pixel pipes)
It relies on system memory (ram) for rendering. Unfortunately, going out to system memory introduces latency, or delays between the time that data is requested and data begins to arrive. Possibly causing that 4 second delay you were talking about when flying.
So what all this means is; and I hate to lay it on you but, it's more than likely your graphic card or it's inability to keep up with the massive amount of data that's causing the crashes. After all it is a super inexpensive card....and no, another gig of ram wouldn't help speed that card's real time rendering demand up any.
Try lowering your monitor's screen resolution. that's less detail to have to render.
