I wouldn't call this flaming but.. you have to remember it is only a game. Sure, it's called REALITY and all but the devs aren't trying to make a substitute to for war on a world scale with exact geographical features and, despite there bieng a large naval base nearby, they still have to keep the balance right. Because (Exaggerated, might not be, I don't know) You can't have a Dalian map with like 200 USMC Reinforcements against about 2000 PLA.

Playability vs Reality

After all, it's a game and has to play well instead of being 100% realistic :)

they said its a game

also th m24 and all weapons are zeroed in to a certain distance, after thats thers bullet drop.. so the as ur example is the m24 its zeroed into 600 meters doesnt mean that the bullet dissappears at 600m's it starts to lose energy and thers is bullet drop..so aim higher

show some respect for the devs, it hard to mod this engine
IBEVK + IBTL

ps. wlecome to forums and gd job on reading the guide

Welcome to the forums...

I think you`re right in most of your points.
As you might have realized PR is currently at version 0.609. So you can expect a lot more until 1.0. We all know it`s a lot of work to modify a game (especially with that engine) so it looks like PR today. Your points are true, and if you have the skills to code/modify/whatever to help them to change these things...go and do so!
Otherwise i would ask you to show some more respect for the work the PR-team is giving us FOR FREE!?!?
And, of course, use the search function as there are already discussions where you could have stated your thoughts instead of opening a new thread.

Knives...The USMC carries a bayonet. I know I was one for 4 years. Also used to "arrest" civilians since we don't have ingame handcuffs! And what are you doing stabbing bone? Go for the soft meaty bits!

Language...correct me if I'm wrong, but those are the voices and grammer and what not for the original BF2. This would not be PR doing at all. However, I've seen that the DEV team is working with native speaking chinese PR players to make it spot on.

Locations....it's Project Reality a mod for Battlefield 2 which is a GAME. The Bf2 engine is limited to size. Even though the Dev's are pushing the edge of the envelope in making larger and larger maps and they have my thanks!

Ballistics.... eloquintly answered by CareBear

Afterall, if it were total "REALITY" no one would be able to play! I know I wouldn't as I have not been trained to operate an M1A1, or have enough flight hours to fly a Blackhawk.

The Dev team has done an absolutely increadible job of taking a somewhat amusing FPS game and creating "CRACK FOR MY BRAIN" I just can't get enough! If I don't play everyday I get the shakes!

FizzyBubbly wrote:Realism vs. Gameplay

I've just looked through the Wiki and noticed that while this game has done a good job with physics, protocol, etc; It has left out a few important things.
In your book or ours? Most of the points you bring up aren't even listed in the Glossery at the back of things to do.

FizzyBubbly wrote:Knives:
Are not used by the US Army except for tools. This was probably forgotten for gameplay purposes but I hope US Army personell have stated this.
Also, the Wiki is wrong. Skin tissue is tougher than you think, using a knife is by no means silent, and the spinal cord is initially protected by the spine. This is another Hollywood myth. However, I have no info on USMC.
Every single Army is issued a bayonet or knife of some description during times of war.

Now, last time I checked the wiki guide was a guide in relation to Project Reality as a mod. Not Project Reality as a medical journal. Thank you for pointing out that bone is indeed difficult to cut through. We will look into modelling a chainsaw for 0.7 to overcome this ;)

By the way, the softest part of the spine is where it connects with the skull, and the back of your neck. If you were an insurgant, you could practise this no doubt with a rusty breadknife and camcorder.

Use of a knife to neautralise tends to be the most silent approach to getting the job done when stealth is needed. Quieter than those noisy shooty things anyway. Don't want to wake the neighbours now, do we?
FizzyBubbly wrote:Language:
I don't know if there is anyone else here who speaks Mandarin, but the grammar is not exactly perfect. It is probably the same with the Arabian language in-game as well.
I must confess, my grasp of Mandarin and Arabic fails me. We do have community members wanting to do voiceovers for PLA forces. We are suffering a bit with MEC voiceovers, as our Arabic community members are usually out during the day, shooting at Coilition Forces (joke ffs!).
FizzyBubbly wrote:Location:
Man zhou (Manchuria) is alot more mountainus than portrayed in the game, and this mod, depending on region. As most maps are ficticious, this part may be ignored.
In RL Dalian peninsula would not fall so easily if one were to attack it as it is located near to Yantai, where a major PLA naval base is located.
I thought Manchurians came from Manchester? Should we model the M6 with tailbacks? On your point....what map are you on about??

PS) We develop a game. We are not the National Geographical Survey Unit ;)

Oh, by the way...Dalian is NOT included with 0.6. Please please please play the mod before making any more suggestions.
FizzyBubbly wrote:Ballistics:
Most of PR has got it right. But IIRC the M24's maximum efficient range isn't 600m.
Do I sense a guns.ru weapons specialist? I LOVE guns.ru weapon specialists. This point has been covered above in a previous post. The weapon is zeroed to 600m, further distances require the firer to conpensate for the round dropping, making it a skill to hit targets past this range.

The word *efficient* means that the weapon is operationally accurate to this range. Experience with the weapon will expand your realistic engagement range as a player in the mod, as you will learn the compensation needed etc.

Hey, at least he didnt suggest fastroping, 1337 Spec Op class, 1337 snipers..

btw, in 0.6, USMC uses the M40 instead of M24, so youre a bit too late with that suggestion :p

The Chinese PRM community is doing the new PLA voice comms, so no more EA jibber Mandarin...altough I doubt, we'll ever have the chance to change the MEC ones

Please relax and not be so defensive. It's these discussions, whether accurate or not that help build a strong interest in the game and community involvement. (Luckily I no longer have mod rights because I can't stand the abuse and overuse of the words 'search function' and 'this is a game' argument; I thought PR was about using as much realism as possible to enhance the game)

In any case, FizzyBubbly, thank you for your suggestions. Perhaps you have some links that might help support these statements? Evidence is stronger than word of mouth (or words of fingers as it were).

Word. :)

Welcome to the Forums.
We have Salah A Din and at least one other Arabic speaker whose name escapes me, and of course Kruder.

But if manchurians come from Manchester was the Manchurian candidate a recruit for ManU ?

I think most of your queries and suggestions have been answered here already. One thing I would suggest to you is that as your first post it usually isn't the best idea to come in with several suggestions. It would be more prudent to look at each suggestion through searching the forums and post on each one if you find something that can be realisticly changed/added.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy PR :D

Edit:
Kenwayy that is just a butter knife you threw under the couch and took a pic of, stop messing around :P

Again, welcome to PR fizzy.

I would however advocate playing the game before making suggestions about what should be changed.

Im inclined to lock this but. but ill leave it open as long as we get some interesting discussion going.

step to it people!
