Interesting Map Idea

Post by bunny »

Heres an idea: How about a map made largely of water, but the CPs are on small islands (about the range that you can cap a CP in size). One side would start on a carrier and the other on a larger island. This is entirely realistic. When a volcanic island erodes away, some of the higher elevations stay above water. This creates a system of small islands surrounded by shallow water. A map like this would create many dogfights and boat-to-boat combat, something not often seen in BF2. It would probably be located somewhere in the Pacific, near China perhaps. So this would be a good US/Britain vs. China map. What do you guys think?

Sounds good.

Go make it.

In all seriousness, I'd love to see an "island hopping" map as it would have a different play dynamic than the usual that I think could be great fun. :D
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

I wonder where you got this idea from....1942?

It would be a nice tourist location though.

Again, with these map ideas, they barely get made.

Would be cool!
And for that map we need gunboats (perhaps one model with spawnpoint) and not these APCs swimming like ducks

Hm, islands... Kind of reminds me of Coral Sea and Invasion of the Philippines maps from BF1942. Island fighting might be nice, have some mini beach invasions and different defences on each island. We'll see if Operation Barracuda is going to be like this.

I really want to see a map that utilizes stealthy RIB insertions.

Would be cool imo. So uh, go for it, and release a beta for us to test!

well from my experience with large, mainly water, island maps in Joint ops,it could be good but:
1.In joint ops, apcs simply sit in the water, blasting anything that moves
2.if the map is 17 sq km,it could take a long time to finish

Still I like the idea and PR is very different from Joint Ops

it doesnt have to be that big, and the distance between islands would probly be only a few hundred meters

could be good if it was like the watery vbf2 map...all swampy and a bit walkable between the little islands...or a short swim...heavy forest..hmm...what would be the premise though? or the storey line...seems like a pretty sorry place to fight a battle...

perhaps th islands could be in a position that would make and excellent staging area for an invasion?

The only problem for this kind of map are the jets. You said in the opening post about dogfighting and jets would completely destroy the enemy RIBs.

The problem wiht having each island wihtin visual range would be that one APC could just sit and blast the **** out of the enemy with HEAT rounds, and clearing the island... Really annoying if your an infantry man. Let's see..

made a thread just like this Yesterday, totally agree we need more air / naval warfare maps.

Would love to see some new battle ships in PR.

Here is the thread i made yesterday ... https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showth ... ight=naval ;)

Joint Operations had some really great Island Hopping maps...they were incredibly frustrating at times but really fun when it worked.
I would like to see:

1-some jungly Islands with limited roads for APC's.
2-Chopper\Boat transport is the main way of traveling
3-The game is at early\dusk

so what about a us vs. ch volcano island scenario:
inside the volcano is a jungle but its still surrounded by the high crater, so no plane can actually see anything and apcs cant zoom the crater from the beach.
BUT it would be a nice job to fly a heli into the crater ;)
on the southside of the island could maybe be a airfield.
this main island is surrounded by 2-3 smaler islands having fords between them.
inside we have this jungle and outside its a vegetation like on oman...so playing with big toys would be nice and infantry could go into the volcano.
taxiing a squad through a unfriendly sector into a crater would be a awesome kick and every class would have a hell of fun ;)

i see what your saying about the tanks and APCs...but that can be countered in a few ways. if you are dead set on putting them on the map then how bout you add a thick fog into the mix? that would make things nice and hectic

Nice idea, it would be pretty different compared to other PR maps, and that's only a good thing.

There should'nt be too many APC's maybe one per side.
