Supply / Para Drops - Hercules C-130 transporter

Post by =UKHC=Neoteknix »

I know that Transporting / Moving Supply Crates in BF2 is a bit of a no no ......

SO how about .......

a nice big Hercules C-130 transporter on any maps with an airfield ?

I Dont know if its possible, But do you think that the Fire Button could be incorporated to "Spawn" a Supply Crate to the Rear of the Hercules so that they Drop just the way they do now ?

I'm fearing the Word Hardcoded, But it'd be nice to See a Supply Role and a Nice big C-130 sat in one of the Air Bunkers. Each C-130 would have 3 crates on board, but could only Drop one at a time - It would need to have a timer like the commanders to finish before the next one could be released ( to avoid Supply Crate Spamming ) they would then need to land and re-load.

Squad leaders Could request a supply Drop, then the Transport plane knows where to drop them - and Squads could recieve supplies Quicker, depending on how high they were dropped from. Dependant on the Pilots Skill and experience i think this could make or break some fire fights on the Ground.

also this would give the fighter jets something more to do than fight - Escort. The Supplies would be invaluable for your team and you can imagine the importance of Protecting them.

( would be Sweet as a Nut seeing a C-130 with an escort of 2 F-16s !!!! )

8)

i'm thinking this Transport Could also give players the ability to Paradrop from the Plane, not sure if its possible but you wouldnt even need to give the players kits - if you could assign the player to exit and automatically open a chute upon Pressing E that would be cool.

Like i said, not sure if any of this is possible .....................

but worth a stab for a future release i guess ?

Interesting idea, the need to actually have someone drop supplies. But making a C130 just for that is a bit too much.

Maybe if the AC-130 gets in game, most of the development assets could be reused to make the C-130, but other than that, it would seem to be to be some wast of resources making this.

If we had huge maps where troop transport was need on the scale of the C-130, that also would be another story.

The A-C130 is AWESOME.

The day i see one of those in the skies, i really hope i'd have been lucky enough to bring a change of underpants with me.

i kinda just did a search and realise similar threads have been made ... ah well !

Supplies really should be down to the players, Not the Commander just pressing an accept button ..... imho anyway :)

At least it will add a bit of realism to it instead of simply having a supply box just spawn in heaven and fall down.

Yes it is possible to have the supply crate spawn from the C-130.

Yes it is possible to have the troops paradrop from the C-130. Only some coding will have to be done so the soldiers won't die when they step freely on a moving vehicle. Sandbox fixed this easily and I don't see why PR has gotten around to fixing it yet. For those of you who have jumped out of a moving tank and died instantly, that's what I mean.

An alternative is to have the exit point for the soldiers just outside the ramp so they start free falling instead of having to walk out.

My only fear of this: Witnessing a new fly-boy try to land one of these in game.

Actually, I don't think Kashan would be too big for an AC-130 gunship, but for supplies run with a C-130, yes. It would be ok, but still to big. I just adds a nice touch :)

Perhaps the V-22 that is included in the game files would be more suited for this?

It's much smaller, can take-off vertically, and use short runways; it seems much better suited for the small areas that we have in-game.

I remember playing Desert Combat and flying this thing around. I don't know if the maps were bigger in DC or what, but it didn't seem so.

Although, you think people whine about "baseraping" now? Just wait until they see a C-130 orbiting their main base with a constant rain of paratroops dropping in on them.

What about a Chinook. Chuck the crate out the back, or dangle it underneath. US and UK have Chinooks. They're great. Had one hovering near my house a few weeks ago when we had floods. Jeez they're noisy!

How about having the SL or Commander request supplies from the back of a support truck.
