Nikov's Brilliant Idea; Bunny Hopping Solution
Remove jumping. No dolphin-diving, no prone-hopping, no bunny hopping, no tank surfing. Just footwork.
It is possible that a few maps have obstacles which require jumping to clear; in that case, we could turn up the "step" parameter on soldiers if it exists, or redraw the collision meshes to allow foot clearance.

Sometimes it can be useful for jumping over walls, or jumping accross roofs with small enough gaps. We could try it, but it's like everything else in life, although you think it's useless, once it's gone you realise just how much you use it.NikovK wrote:But why do we even have a jump button? right imagine approaching sand bags and having to go around, especially under fire. IRL you would dive over that thing like (and because) your life depends on it. as for bunny hopping, weapons need to either retract from the screen (dod style) or go totally inaccurate and as for diving the same thing applies.

I think, if workable, slow the stand up and lay down animations, and prevent shooting, In fact I think if you dont aim you should be able to shoot.
I would love to see the animations changed to when walking or running the gun is pointing down, and will shoot down. Sort of what the modders in OFP did.

but even on the run, when you fire your weapons youre going to try to fire it in the direction of a target, even running and gunning will work sometimes just out of the sheer amount of lead you put in the air. maybe when youre running the gun should be down and when you clikc to fire the character has to bring up the weapon (taking fractions of a second in which you could be immolated by an enemy) to fire.
also you can go prone quickly, but you wont hit anything if youre going to shoot.

How about retracting it... BF2 style? The base is already there. You see it in every game, you use it constantly: Sprint. Add that state to jumping and voila! No more shooting while jumping!BrokenArrow wrote:as for bunny hopping, weapons need to either retract from the screen (dod style)
The problem is that I dont think its possible. There are too many hardcoded things in BF2, I'm afraid the sprint/jump logics is one of them (besides to obvious tunable speeds/heights/ and "soft" info). Same thing with disabling proning while jumping.

IMHO they should make it so that when you try shooting while running it automaticaly slows you to a walk (Like when you go into aim) and with the bunny hopping should make small zones around sandbags and such where jumping works, and or make it so that you have to wait 1 second after hitting jump to be able to go prone

Try playing a game without it and you'll see why it needs to be in. WWIIOL has no jump function and it's retarded. You can climb up a 3 inch step. Completely retarded.
Tie jumping into stamina and your done. Two or three jumps and that's it. You're exhausted and no more bunning hopping. As the saying goes, albeit slightly modified, "Go ahead and jump little bunny, you'll only die tired."

they had it good, DOD did it better. unfortunately i dont know if the ability to jump can be tied in with a small amount of stamina, i could be wrong but i think it only takes away from the stamina bar and therefore takes away your ability to sprint. i find it hard to believe that the original testers for BF2 werent so pissed off when they got killed by things such as this (among others -arty-) that they decided to scrap them.

Jumping is a tough problem in this game, primarily when you happen to be the one trying to hit some fool who's jumping, going to prone, and firing, all in one motion. Certainly I don't think jumping should be removed because it is useful for clearing obstacles. I may be wrong, though it seems to take off more stamina in PR when you jump than regular BF2. Granted, it is pretty hard to jump with any efficiency when your loaded down with 40 to 80 pounds of gear (not including your weapon), but you get pretty inspired when you're getting shot at. You may blow out your knee or fall real hard when you land, but as far as realism, that may be going a bit far.
I do also think shooting while running, (obviously not with any kind of accuracy) shouldn't be taken from the game like someone suggested. It's a pretty common tactic to supress an enemy, cause it's hard to hit a running target, especially one that's throwing bullets in your general direction.
