strange "lag"
Whenever I load Al Basrah, Al kufra, EJOD, Op. Pheonix, or Bi Ming, my comp nearly locks up and my fps drops to 2-5. I had this issue in .5, but it was only on Al Basrah. The strange part is: my resources stay normal, cpu usage is around 50%, memory isn't even touching page file, and even gpu is cool and barely working. My ping is well below 100. It is a very strange issue, and I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem. All maps on BF2 vanilla work great, the same with all other games. I even dropped my graphic settings to low and dropped resolution to 800x600. Same issue. Thanks in advance. My specs:
ASUS P5N-E SLI
Intel Core2 Duo E6600
2Gb DDR2 dual channel
8800GTS 640mb
By the way, Great mod.

Let me guess? Windows Vista?
If that is the case, its 99% sure that is your problem. Many have had problems with it. BF2/PR and Vista just dont mix. Unfortunatly there is no proper fix to it, except go back/dual boot on XP
There are a few threads on this, maybe read them throught.
Seems like its always the better systems that seems to have the most problems with Vista.

Strange... I can't think of why Vista would have any affect on these particular maps though. I use Vista and the only lag I get is when I load a city map, or map with lots of objects (because I only have 1 gig of ram). But if your page file isn't being touched, this can't be the issue at all. Try reinstalling Battlefield and Project Reality, see if it makes a difference. Or, if you still have an XP partition, try running PR from XP and see if it still occurs (if it does then we can rule out operating system as a reason).

I am in fact running Vista, but I do have a second partition running XP, and after installing PR.6 on XP, I still had the same problem with the maps stated above. Also, why would Vista only affect those maps, while others still run great at 40-50 FPS? I am currently reinstalling BF2, will let you know when I'm finished. Thanks for the tips.

Found a solution!
I still don't know exatcly what the problem is, but I have found a fix. If you encounter the same problem I have been having on certain maps, simply turn your "texture" setting (only) down one step, to medium. Leave all other settings (geometry, effects, shadows, AA, resolution, etc.) on high. This completely fixed my problem, though I don't know why I didn't get the same result when I dropped ALL my setting to low. I do not know why this fixes the lag issue, as my hardware was not the problem, and it was only on about half the maps. I'd appreciate it if the developers would look into it. Cheers

Hi all. First post here. First, thanks for a great mod
I also have this extreme lag issue when running PR. on Vista. FPS 2-5.
System:
Quad 6600@ 3.4 Ghz
Gigabyte DQ6
4 Gb Gskill. HZ
XFX 8800 GTX
The problem is only in PR, not in Vanila. I`m gonna try the the turning down texture to se if that solves the problem.

Coojoe are you using a Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX graphic card ?, because Im having the damn same proplem, running on Windows Xp, AMD athlon 3500+, 2 gb in memory and a Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX 512 mb graphic card, I have a special harddrive for just for windows and another hard drive for the games.
Some one told me to fix the proplem you should get a better fan for the card and then I heard I should delete the "shader cache" file in battlefield/mods and then I heard I should overclock my graphic card but nobody really knows how to fix the proplem.....

Have you guys tried setting your dual core cpu's Affinity to just use 1 core?
IE: CRTL-ALT-DEL for task manager, right click on the BF2.exe and set Affinity to 0
For those who dont run Intel, theres also an AMD dual core optimiser app.
Someone mentioned 4GB of RAM?? apparently windows isnt that good at handling much over 3 GB, maybe theres some conflict there?.
Also for Nvidia Users i would use the control panel to set your AA and leave it set to OFF in bf2 settings. Not too sure if theres and equivalent for ATI users.
I know not much help for intel ATI users heh but you can still try the affinity setting suppose.

Flashpoint has a weeks worth of out the box gameplay, after that it's boring. "

What do you mean with "Nvidia user I would use the control panel to set your AA and leave it set OFF in bf2 settings", what is "AA" and yes I dont have dual core but they say that my proplem is strictly because of graphic card
Thanks for the help anyways mate.....

The only REAL problem with vista, is that there is a 2 gb memory paging limit on applications. Because of this no application can use more than 2 gb of memory (BOTH virtual and physical). However you can fix that so its not that big a deal. Other somewhat bothersome problem (mainly with vista 64) is that a lot of drivers haven't quite caught up.
This only applies for 32 bit versions (of both xp and vista). 64 bit can handle up to 128 gb of ram.M4nicMin3r wrote: Someone mentioned 4GB of RAM?? apparently windows isnt that good at handling much over 3 GB, maybe theres some conflict there?.
