Avoiding conflict does anyone else do it?

Post by DavidP »

I find it really useful on alot of maps. On Mestia i waited a total 20 minutes before firing a shot and when i did my squad destroyed an entire british convoy at west tower.

On Kashan we were dropped behind enemy lines with no hope of extraction so we waited in the bathroom of a the southern most bunker(You should've seen it 4 usmc guys in the stalls crouching  ) We had Mec right on top of us who never saw us because we were so quiet, As our team moved up and capped north bunker we finally made our move and took out 10 mec guys and capped it in 2 minutes! They were like wtf?(Some of them thought we had speed hacks for flag capping lol!)

I have so many other stories but i'm tired right now.

Those spanish fighters are great defensive guys.

I remember on one map (did I hear the ENTIRE PR forum sigh and then read the next post?) Batalla and crew defended one point for 40 minutes without ANYTHING happening. So we happily chatted over VOIP about what was on telly, family life, work etc etc - and suddenly we heard

"BREACH - WEST SECTOR!"

And all of a sudden the party came to us, and we had a hell of 20 minutes.
Oh - and MEDICO!

Reminds me of those people who either spend an entire match locked away in the Temple defending it, or getting ready for the rest of the team to cap River Fort :p

We tried this yesterday. Unfortunately it`s almost impossible with public gamers.
At one point we had even 2 friendly squads telling us to move to the slaughter zone instead of staying in the defensive position the commander has ordered us and we had set up an organized defensive perimeter. (Was the flag next in AAS.)

I like to set up ambushes along roads. Establish a well planned kill zone and make sure all your guys keep strict discipline. It's a beautiful thing. If you only engage that way, your squaddies will almost die.

Picking up a M40 off my foolish SL on Daqinq near PLA base, then taking a few shots with relocating each time, then gtfo'ing into the hills and spending 20 mins on a ridge with whole PLA base looking my way...no one really took interest, I sniped a base camper here and there, but got hunted down by a tank firing Sabot shells at me
And also an APC coming over the ridge without seeing me in the grass 10 m away...guess ghillie suit does work :p

Oh and managing to sneak into the North Bunker bathroom and having some smart *** blue guys "omg Outluwz take out dat marksman on da roof" with a whole enemy squad in the hallway and a RP in the other room...
I almost suceed taking them out, but the damn G3 reload killed me...damn 20 bullet cartridges...

Last night we had an enemy (british) squad in the temple yelling frequently that they are in the basement of the temple, waitin' for us. While we didn't lose the river fort once, and even managed to get their outpost. Boring round for them, I guess...

It's a great way to take out rally points. Just because someone runs past you doesn't mean it's a good time to kill them. Staying concealed is the better option in a variety of situations.

I had one really beautiful ambush I setup with some squadmates, we rushed to one of the neutral flags that would be captured by them, we had two heavy ATs, one light AT, machine gun, medic and myself as officer.

One APC and two vodniks drove in... my it was delicious. Not a single one of them fired a round. Just drove in and before they stopped. KABLAMO. About 15 kills in 5 seconds. (For the entire squad). It was just enough to let the rest of our team cap all the flags behind us, catch up with us and push them back.

Also, I'll often have "hit and run" teams or ambush teams setup along bridges and roads, ready to take out jeeps, apcs, tanks and the like.

Hiding and ambushes are not only amazingly fun, but are really useful. For instance, enemy captures a flag, we wait, if their numbers are superior, then a few of them drive off and we take the flag before they can reach the next one.

I avoid shooting sometimes, yeah, but only usually if I'll have the chance to silently knife my target (since guns can be heard from miles away).

Sometimes, like a round I a minute ago, I'll be out on my own (I was assigned to keep an eye on a rarely used approach to our flag), and notice an entire squad in front of me - obviously not a good idea to fire since they're about 20 feet away, but haven't noticed me. I told my squad leader they were coming, waited until they were totally out in the open and had no cover (which also happened to be pretty much just at the point the rest of my squad could see them) and then start opening fire, so they have no chance.

Shooting at everything that moves is just as retarted as Ramboing it, vBF2 style.

Yes, I can appreciate a squad who knows when to fire and when not to fire from a tactical point of view. Sometimes stealth and not fire power, is your most effective weapon.

Nothing pisses me off more than when my squad is moving toward an enemy held position and some jackhole opens fire just because he saw a head pop up or one enemy expose himself. This usually ends up in having our position given away and a complete slaughter of our squad.

If I'm the squad leader, this is usually followed by a swift sacking of the offending party.

Cheers to your squad for fire-discipline and tactical intelligence. I'd happily play with you guys anytime.

thats happend to me quite a few times, my squad coming up on a enemy position then some guy opens fire on someone or something he just saw..and im like HOLD UR Fecking fire!!.

i just hate people like that, they really do piss me off...cos most of the time my squad always gets slaughtered before we get to our objective "where we are attacking etc"

i prefer people who obey orders and when i say open fire, you open fire...i mean, my squad was inside the merlin..and some guy opened fire at some insurgents...and what happens!!?. we get shot out of the sky due to helicopters health and small arms fire too!. :x

It's a bit annoying when you spot an enemy and people can hear you shout it out. For one thing, most of the time it's not just your own squad's benefit you do it for so it seems a bit unrealistic that you'd be shouting it out.

Sure, it's ok to use VOIP to warn your squad of people around you, but it's much easier seeing red dots on the radar.

-Got pinned down 200m north of gardens on EJOD, APC to the south, two rallies to the west. Just stayed behind that sanddune picking off people camping and spawning at the rallies(Had no other choice, they had spotted me). Took down 16 of them in 2 minutes time before I got capped. My little solo action while I was pinned held back two USMC squads and gave MEC the opportunity to break the contain set up. We still lost though as we had 40 tickets when we got to Gardens and got bogged down there. The only reason I got to that spot was because I didn't engage(Until I got pinned) and used every little indentation in the ground as cover.

Alright, I made a crude map of what happened, here:
http://www.mario-kart.net/gamespy/images/3463map.jpg

Okay, hopefully the map is pretty self-explanatory. We (MEC) had all the flags, with the other squads covering the orange areas. We were covering that eastern hill, and were getting attacked by squads as indicated by the red line. Just in case they decided to go around us, I was assigned to watch the far east of the hill. One squad decided it was going to go around us, but ended up going between me and the rest of my squad. They didn't notice me, and I warned the rest of my squad that they were coming, and to find cover.

We waited until they were in the blue area (you can't tell from the map, but that area is flat on top of the hill, with no cover at all) and then we all opened fire. So they were being shot from the front, by my squad - and from the rear, by me.

The few who weren't immediately killed, turned around to try and escape, but were faced with me in their path, and I gunned them down. Only one guy even fired at me, but I killed him too.

It was a pretty satisfying and perfectly executed move which we were all very happy with.
