Questions about planes...
I've looked around the forum but I cannot find the information to answer my questions, so here it goes:
1) To re-supply planes, do I have to land the plane, or just fly over the take-off/landing strip is enough?
2) When landing the plane, are there any brakes that I can apply to reduce speed, or is it done just through reversing thrust?
3) Is there a delay between the time one reverses thrust on the joystick, and the engines on the plane, in-game, actually kick into reverse? I managed to land the A10, applied 100% reverse thrust to slow it down, but it did not work, hence the reason for my question.
4) Is there a manual, or guide, explaining how the airplane controls work in PR6 available somewhere?
...and thanks to the PR devs for creating such a great mod!

1. Think reality! In real life, they dont catapult the bombs onto the planes
so yes you have to land and standstill on the runway
2. There is only one brake and its the reverse
3. It takes some time for the engine to go from 100% to -100% (reverse thrust) so you'll have to come in slow, somewhere between 500 and 800 km/h. In reality planes dont come in with 100% thrust and then 5 meters from the airstrip turn on the brakes and manage to stop halfway down the strip. you'll have to let go of the vBF2 style landings. I suggest you start a local server and practice on takeoffs, landings, turns and bombing runs before you start flying online.

I tend to do a circuit of the airbase before landing - to ensure the runway hasn't been destroyed, or some numbnuts hasn't parked his humvee there cos he was too scared of someone else getting the plane first.
The last thing you want is to plough your plane into a hole.

Thank you for all of your answers and suggestions. I digged a bit more around the forum, and actually found the PR online manual for planes at this link: http://guide.realitymod.com/index.php?t ... :_Vehicles
I tried to fly the planes in the Kashan map, and really enjoyed it. It's definitely better than the vBF2 experience. I need to practise a lot more before attempting at flying in an actual online game.
Cheers!

You should always land with your main gear lol... landing on the front wheel is a f*cking stupid idea.PlatinumA1 wrote:also when i land with any aircraft , i always "TRY" to land with my main gear first
, if you try to land with your front gear first sometimes your gonna windup crashing , but thats sometimes..
In the F-16 I'll cut across the halfway point of the map, then at the south side of the map I'll set the throttle to zero. I then turn the corner like this as it drops major speed. Try to decrease your height alot and then just apply 30% power everytime you need to increase your height.chimmpp wrote:On Kashan, each airstrip is located in the corner, so no matter which side I am on, I fly to the opposite corner and power all the way down. With minor adjustments for each plane, this works out well for landing.

Yeah, I liked it! I got a little confused with the taxi-ing ordeal, ended up applying full afterburners right out of the hanger (didn't crash tho)
but learned to use the arrow keys to taxi. I love how fast the planes go now!
I still think the HUD should be fixed on the frogfoot, but for US I don't think it matters b/c the Air Force is starting to use the helmet-HUDs projected right onto the visor. and hey, this is a few years in the future anyway.

Practiced on a local server, decreasing speed when you hit the southern most (or northern most) edge of the map and approach the airfield tends to work. Only trouble I have is how to taxi, Im guessing mouse and keyboard dont work *too* well.

I saw someone do that right at the end of the runway, the A-10 stopped just before hitting the sandbags. He died when he got out, so I thought I would salvage the A-10. Got pilot kit, hopped in, turned it around loaded up and took off.Outlawz wrote: And if youre about to crash into something, while on ground, I suggest, you bail out, makes the jet insta-stop. Rather one death than no jet for 20 mins, when its needed.
Anyway, I find landings quite easy, easier than evading enemy missiles and stuff. I guess that is microsoft flight simulator at work.
I come over the sandbags/threshold at 600knots or whatever they are ingame, and at right about that moment I full reverse (it is the way my joystick is set up, it goes from +100% to -100%) and flare.
I suggest you download the Kashan 16 player training map that was posted on these forums not long ago. Start up a local server and just practice. Everything has a very quick spawn time, and you can practice almost every aircraft. If I find the link I will post it.
