Mortar flares

I didn't see this in the already suggested suggestions, and i searched.

I think it would be great for maps like Bi Ming and future night maps to have the upcoming mortars in them. but instead of regular explosive rounds, or with explosive rounds, you could have one of those flare rounds that fire up and over the target create light so the battlefield is like a christmas tree. Idk if it's hardcoded but i decided to post it anyway :roll: . and i don't exactly know if they are called mortar flares.

They are flares, but in military parlance they are called "illumination rounds." Yep, they've been suggested before, but it's okay. :)

Ah yes "illumination rounds"

I'm just stopping by here to ask what the devs think of this today. We actually have illumation flares. The problem might be though if all night maps would suddenly be removed within the next patch. Is it really impossible to code? Surely mats can do some magic on it?

This would be especially cool on vietnam maps.

I guess it would be possible. Only tricky part would be to make the flare only generate light above the target and stay there for some time. Would be really tricky to do w/o screwing up the mortar calculator.
It isnt really worth it tbh. I think there are only 3 maps that use flares currently and one of them is Arctic Lion that will get removed. There are just too many issues with dynamic light in bf2 to make them work on all/more maps.
I also dont like night maps, so id rather like to not promote them with more features :p

The map has bugs, GPO issues and is visually simply not done. Its a WIP map that needs a few weeks of work.

I mean balance wise, also the airfield bug. Thats off topic though.
