LZ as a commander asset

Post by Farks »

I was just playing as commander on Al Basrah, and seeing the Merlin flying around gave me the idea about a commander-deployed LZ (landing zone). It could be useful on maps with uneven ground and with few good landing spots.

Something like this:

I don't see the advantage of this, other then having a nice square to land on.

I see the advantage, for the enemy. "Yeah, this is where the chopper's going to land. Hell, you won't even need an AA missile now! One RPG and a .50in will do!"

If the pilot's good enough, he'll be able to fly into a given grid square, locate the squad and spot a decent landing position. If he can't, he shouldn't be flying.

Vikingo is just so used to write "already suggested" that he just automatically posts it in every tread he opens.

you know i came up with that theory before, then i ran a search to see if it was already theorized

Yeah I think the ideas more about having a re-arming/repair area in the field then a place to pick up grunts from.

I also suggested it as a "deployable emergency helipad" sometime BEFORE araj.

What's wrong with the green smoke, and a pilot who knows not to land on razor wire?

Getting extracted by chopper should be a team effort - pilots and grunts on the ground alike. I don't think you need to construct anything special for this.

Exactly^.

A FARP is not the same as a deployable landing zone.... unless you mean creating a main landing pad in a safe zone for the helicopter? Either way, I see no need for either.

What about maps like Kashan and such though? There'll come a time when a place to re-arm and repair becomes necessary on the field. All dependant on whether the ideas a bit C&C in the end for me.

If you need to rearm/repair in the field there are ways to do it. Engineers, support jeeps, supply crates.

All it takes is planning and teamwork.

True but I'd like to think things like this actually existed in real life still.

They're are called forward bases and such, this would be the main base in PR.

It would be exploited, how?

Reloading hydras while constantly firing them 500 mtrs from the enemy main.

How about you need to build a heli pad at the main for choppers to spawn on. You could only build it at the main with in a certain flag radius. No commander no enges = no choppers. Yes it would be destructible also. mabe do something like that with the planes?

Nope. I'm sure the helipad is a package deal with the base.
