Officer = Crewman

Post by BeerHunter »

Might I humbly suggest (in case it hasn't been before , search =nadda) that the Officers Kit (available only to SL's) also include the ability to operate vehicles (as per the Crew mans kit).

Nothing more aggravating than , being a SL and officer (so you can set rally points) you find a vehicle but have to drop the officers kit , grab a crewman's kit , move the vehicle , drop the crewman's kit , grab the officers kit (if you remember) and return to the line.

Would make much more sense if an Officer could also operate the vehicles wouldn't it?

Officers don't drive vehicles, sorry. He should be behind his squad not running around solo. There is still 5 squad members that can take that task. Just use the communication and you will have it your way.

not quite true there, you can have tank commanders :p

thou about the overall idea I'm going to have to say no as in r/l tank crews have no need to set "rally points" since they dont need, and should never get out of there vehicle in combat, aswell as they dont need to drop off a load of kit before an assault like an infantry squad need to do.

If you want a spawn point as a crewman, grab an APC ;)

ok let me reestablish, i support this idea with the asset other than setting rallies the squad leader has, and i think these personal asset could be changed to fit different roles, so you could have tank commanders with this like soflams for range finding (when not using citv).

as rhino says i do agree with the fact that setting rallies points when driving a tank is pretty pointless.

If you're leading an armour squad you don't need to set up a rally point.

Make sure the SL is not the driver or gunner, so he can concentrate on coordinating the tanks instead of driving, cause if hegets caught he will have points deducted from the liscence.

It might be cool to see a tank or armor comander kit with the ability to set up like repair stations and stuff with the same rules on to them as the ones to rallys..

Would be cool, but it would also make killing armor even more difficult.

these sort of posts don't contribute to the topic atall , so don't post pointless stuff like that.

back to topic : As a squad leader i like to drive yes , but at times i would need a crewman kit would be when im in a armor squad , and wouldn't not need the function of the officer kit (setting rally points), because as you probably know driving jeeps you don't need a crewman and can do it with the officer , so its not really important.

I detect a sense of......NEGATIVITY!! :p

I wasn't thinking in terms of a SL running off in all directions with tanks , APC's etc.

Was thinking along the lines of the SL being close by but in the rear (where he should be) and the squads APC being parked somewhere safe (where it should be),

Time to advance to the next position or bring up the APC for extra supporting fire power if needed..SL (as officer) can rally the squad to the APC then drive to the new objective or move thee APC into range so its guns can be brought on bear on a target.

No need then for a squad member to have to bother changing kits to drive the damn thing or pull bnack form the fight , and you'd have one more extra "specialty" position filled if you wanted.

Even if it were simply limited to light armored vehicles.........

I dont think it would be a good idea aswell.

But this idea allows for SL to drive vehicles and set rallys in certain sitautaions : https://www.realitymod.com/forum/t24553.html, you will get this and much more. PLEASE DO READ, TIS great!

IT give so many things people want. IN this case: Tank CO = ARmour Squad leader kitt.

I don't think that sl should be driving any thing that requires a crewman kit. That would give the sl to much power and he would be less likely to keep his squad together and work as a team. Although I'm completely for some sort of transport that requires an officer kit to use.

You are aware the guy with the Officer kit, could simply jump into the MG up on the top of the tank, you can be any class to operate that weapon.

a repair station sounds good, but there should be rule where a repair truck has to be next to it.
