Ranking system
How does the rank up system work in PR (if you are using ABR)? Is it the same as in BF2? Or do you need more points for some ranks or some specific badges?

It's exactly the same including the badges you need to get the higher ranks.NICK.ALTMAN wrote:How does the rank up system work in PR (if you are using ABR)? Is it the same as in BF2? Or do you need more points for some ranks or some specific badges?

Earning Basic AA Defence & Basic Aviator Is Hard/Impossible
And that's my big problem. Point-wise I should have the rank of Captain. Instead I am stuck at Master Gunner Seargent. I never was one to pay too much attention to points & awards, but the following situation just pisses me off. I am missing two badges at the moment to get the rank I should have: Basic Anti Air Defence and Basic Aviator..:iGi:.U.G.H. wrote:It's exactly the same including the badges you need to get the higher ranks.
Fair enough, you would think, but that's where I hit a snag. I have to earn those badges in vanilla assets/vehicles. Most anti-air emplacements are not the vanilla models and therefore give me no badge for sitting in them for 10 minutes. I realise however, there are places where I can do so, like on Kashan Desert air bases (the map was sadly taken out of rotation on my favourite server for causing disconnects when assets spawned).
Even worse, as far as I know there are no vanilla planes in PR v 0.6!!!
I would have to find an F-18 somewhere (PR Wake Island 64) on an ABR-ranked server to earn my damn Basic Aviator!
Can somebody please suggest a solution? When I reach that sodding Captain rank I will stop caring about points forever, but being stuck at my low, low rank is awful.

Not to knock you 2. Who cares about points? They do no good in the mod. It's not like you are gonna unlock some uber gun or class. And further more if EA hadn't done the point and stat thing I think the BF2 MOD community would be doing better as a whole. VBF2 players are so hooked on the point and stats thing that most won't even try a mod. At least we got you 2 to come to the dark side. Now if we can only get you to forget about points and focus on teamwork/play, tactics, and communication.

This discussion about ranking and scores has been had before. Despite the forum majority happy to do away with ranks and points, no one wants to play on empty servers. This is what would happen if you didn't have ranks. Thats why whenever you see a well populated server it will have ABR running.
That comment kind of works against you. Without ranks and points it would be impossible to get vBF2 players to try the mod. With the ABR system at least it gets them over to try it. Once they are here and realise how good the mod is they normally stay, but the ABR system is a very good draw to get them to try the mod.PaveHawk wrote:VBF2 players are so hooked on the point and stats thing that most won't even try a mod.

I think maybe you missed the point. Did BF42 or BF-V have an official point and stat tracking system? No they didn't. You could score points but once the round was over that was it. There where a few website that would track stats but none were official. Now you may be asking yourself what does that matter. It matters because the modding communities for both of the previous BF games were 3 to 4 times bigger then that of BF2. Hell a lot of the time you can even find more people playing mods for BF42 and BF-V, then you can BF2 mods. Now I'm not saying stats are all that bad, just that they way EA locked out all the mods is bad. And was a huge blow to the BF2 modding community.

Oh bloody hell!
Don't forget that perssistent character tracking is one of the secrets of BF2 success! ABR attracts people on PR and should not be neglected. It's basic human psihology. People like to be awarded things. It's our material society we live in.
I've been told be many people that ranks are not vital for them to play PR but it's a nice cool addition!
Nick going now to Prague, Czech Republic to drink for a week!

Points..badges..ranks???
What are these for?? AFAIK in PRM you don't need a specific rank to be a commander or SL.
No one really cares so why worry?
Question to ask yourself is..NOT"how many points did I rack up" but "did I work with the team and play PRM the way it was meant to be played".
Setting up a target of opportunity for a heli and letting him rack up the "kill points" while you watch is just as satisfying as taking the damn thing out yourself..at least it should be.
And populated PRM servers don't mean stat tracking. TG's doesn't AFAIK and its full just about every night.

Ranks = Making Gamers Feel Like They Have Bigger Genitals.
Its the penis debate in every server you go in to.
"Im a SSGT! So i should have the Marksman kit!"
Pisses me right off.

Thanks man! I somehow got my AA defence badge two days after I earned it, and am now eager to get that friggin basic aviator. Let's hope Kashan 64 gets played a bit more in the future, so I can jump in my Mig and do my 10 minutes.101 bassdrive wrote:@ ante: I believe you can get those 2 on the TV2 servers when they run kashan. the mig most definetly gives you air badge and theyve given the airstrips AA defence for the other one.
Oh, and for the record, once I reach that Captain rank, I promise to return to my "I don't give a f*ck about ranks & badges" attitude.
All I want to be is Captain Ante
