"Tripwire flares"

Post by AfterDune »

I had a little chat with my brother just now, talking about things he learned/used in the military (he was with the Dutch Air Mobile Brigade for four years or so). He said some interesting things, so I did some searching, but found not what I'm looking for. My apologies if it has been suggested before ;) .

1. "Tripwire flares"
I put quotes around it, 'cause I don't know what it is called in English. Anyhow, my bro said they used "tripwires" connected to a small device that, as soon as you step on the tripwire, goes off, but instead of exploding, it sends this beacon of light / flare up in the sky, notifying you the enemy's position. I'm not sure about the possibility of flares, but I like the idea of this.
Take Mestia for example. The enemy wants to try and sneak up from the north, but you laid some "tripwire flares" at several locations. The enemy steps on it and "voom", flares flying towards the sky. From the towers, you can easily spot it and exactly know where the enemy is.
If flares aren't possible, smoke could also do. I imagine the "officer's smoke", but thicker and shoots a lot faster up in the sky. Perhaps with a certain bang, but I don't know what it does in reality.
I think something like this will affect gameplay. It's advised that maybe a requestable kit can do this, otherwise it'll be "overused" and then everybody hates it.
Tripwire may not be possible, so I suggest using the "claymore object-properties", so you have to place a device that goes off as soon as you're near it.

2. Camoflage
Camoflage, maybe as a Squad Leader's "structure". Place camoflage in certain areas of the jungle. The idea is to hide behind it, or hide something, provide extra cover, etc.
Though the idea is nice, I haven't figured out how this would really affect gameplay yet.

What do you guys think of this?

Has been suggested before. But I still like both of them :D

More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

The firebase has camo netting, maybe this could be expanded? I've never really looked at range tho, does it render?

hmm, could be done with the old motion activated clays, using very powerful coloured smoke or even multiple flash bang explosions?

The old clays, exactly!

Regarding the smoke, I suggest the commander's smoke, since it's not meant to disguise the surface, it need to go up up up. I like the thickness of the pilot smoke though. So combine pilot smoke with SL's smoke and there you go.

This would be good if it can be implemented :)

Yeah, would probably mostly be good on a night map. Though some kind of improvised noise-making tripwire for the Militia would fit them I think :p For the insurgents, I think they'd rather just level the whole building when someone triggers a wire. I dunno, just fits them more than some noise and light :p

Not just night-maps of course. If you use good colored smoke, it's useful on most(ly) jungle maps.

Sounds good but we allready have the 100% accurate minimap to locate friendlys and so discern possible enemy locations.

It might be a bit much and end up being too effective. My biggest complaint about claymores in bf2 was they could never be avoided even when you knew they were there and they were too easily instantly deployable.

Yeah, we should be careful with it being overused and/or overeffective. It'll spoil the fun you can have with these things. As I suggested before, perhaps some requestable kit can have one or two of those tripflares.

Flares are cool in nightmaps, but on normal maps, you can let it just be smoke, since you can't see a flare that well in the broad daylight, can you? Or perhaps a flare with a big smoke-trail, but then you might as well leave the flare and just have smoke :p .
