New QBZ95 Sound

Post by PRC_Heavy_Z »

Hey guys, I got a more realistic gun shot sound for the QBZ95... check it out here:
Single shot:
http://media.putfile.com/QBZ95-Sound-17
Burst:
http://media.putfile.com/QBZ95-Burst

The QBZ95 is very loud, especially from the shooter's perspective. The current one is fairly nice but it's too quiet and the sound is too much of a *thrack* sound (it should be more of a *Thaump*).

Feel free to play with the sound, but I wouldn't suggest changing the sound too much because it's pretty accurate as it is.

Wow, that's pretty loud.
Honestly I think it sounds like something from CS but if it's realistic :)

No, its not ripped off of Cs. It was recorded from an outdoor shooting range from ~15m away.

I forgot that you can't download files from putfile.com, so if you still want it, PM me with e-mail address and I will email it to you.

Outdoor explains the echo...
Is Jaymz 1337 enough to to take the sound and put it apart, like on C.S.I. and similar shows? :p

Roger that, I know you didn't rip it off CS, but it sounded like something that could be a gun sound in CS.
But the outdoors part explains it all.

And what does the word "outdoors" mean btw? :p

Outdoors... you know... outside? ;)

But yeah... I guess the echo is slightly "weird" mostly because there was two walls parallel to the firing lane... I'll try to edit it alittle and remove some noise...but is the sound that bad?

well, it's suppose to be loud because that's what the guns sounds like, and it's suppose to sound "outside" because most maps ingame are pretty open.

The sound isn't so loud that it clips or distorts...

Is there a guideline or something for the weapon sounds? What exactly is considered "good quality"? I listened to the weapon sounds currently in the game and IMO the quality is about the same as the one I posted (Putfile might of compressed the file and so the quality might have gone down or something)...

With all due respect to the dev's/sound crew, there needs to be a more realistic gunshot for QBZ95. I understand you guys probably have a life and are very busy, so I would like to help you guys with the sound.

BTW, where did you guys (dev's) get the current sound for QBZ95?

Thank you, the qbz 95 sound right now doesn't sound like a gun, this new one sounds great.

I can't wait for the day guns are actually even close to half as loud as they are in real life. I fire guns often and after the first shot my ears are ringing and even with ear plugs the shot from a .243 is pretty damn loud, the 30/30 is even louder. Just want the sound up a bit.

sorry to say, but this sound is not useable.

these two walls (you can really hear they are not that far away from the shooter, probably 3 meters each, i would estimate) produce a very fast reverb. that fast, you might think 3 or more guns are shooting simultaneously, or almost.

frequencies of different wavelength get reflected in different ways by the walls and going from one wall to the other, back and back to the other and that on.
during that, some frequencies will be amplified and some attenuated.
that will unfortunatly completely change the character of the sound.
you now hear more a "thaump" then a "thrack", mainly because of these two walls.

therefore and because of the very short reverb, we cant use this sound, albeit it would be a great sound, if it would be recorded completely outside any walls and other big, flat, hard surfaces.

Wish more guns had that beefy sound to it.

Thanks for the explanation, I'll try and record the shot on a open range next time. Mean while I'll edit that strange echo a bit.
The gunshot actually have more of a "plastic" bass sound to it, that is not because of the reverberation effect.

It sounds perfectly fine to me--I don't hear any "reverbs" off the walls. That echo is what I love. None of the existing weapons in PR have a nice echo effect to them.

Speaking of the QBZ sounds, shouldn't the QBZ-95B (PLA spec ops weapon) sound the same as the QBZ-95 rifle? The QBZ-95B sounds so quiet and soft in PR, shouldn't the two technically have the same sound?

well, if the DEV says its true, than dadgumit! it's true. :)

China's spec ops doesn't really use the QBZ95B. Infact, I don't know anyone that actually uses that gun (even the PAP doesn't use it for CQC). The Chinese spec ops use QBZ95 or QBZ03,

But anyways, back on topic. I edited the sound I posted so it sounds like its shot in the open. I took out the echo and replaced it with an "open shot" echo.

Listen to it and tell me what y'all think.

I like the second one better, but the second reverb should be a little quiter. right now it sounds kinda like you're shooting into a canyon.
