Female Roles

Post by Evil_Echo »

I had a friend try out BF2 and gave up, even though she's a crack shot with missiles. Just could not deal with having to play a guy. The more I thought about it, the more I could see her point. A lot of guys would not play a woman in a FPS either.

I did search for female soldiers. Read the findings....

Most of the reasons against it were...

"Women don't fight in front line action."
"Women in combat, I don't like it"
"The role can have only one model, you can't pick male or female."

1. Well women do fight in front-line action in some armies and do get caught in front-line action in others. The timeline is "near-present" anyway - I don't hear about the MEC on CNN ever.

2. No-one is forcing you to pick a female character either.

3. As for the 3rd point - I suggest....

Make 2 roles, e.g. male rifleman and female rifleman. ( no not rifleperson!! ).

Developers can re-use most of the code for both roles. Models would be different, but appropriate ( no Laura Craft in BDUs please ). If you want, adjust some of the physical parameters as appropriate - men with more endurance, women with better accuracy.

It's more to do with the WORK involved in making those models. Plus like you said they aren't always allowed in front line combat in most armies, as far as I'm aware they're very much equal in the PLA and if it's anything like the Soviet era, the Russian army.

I think it's hardcoded. Two faces per armies.

But I heard there are dogs in armies too. I'd happily request a "dog" kit under a squadleader and bite the Chinese for eating my cousins! And when I spot (literally) something I'd say "Wuf" :p

Can't be done. Even if we modelled/skinned/animated female models we couldn't get the voices right because the voices aren't defined by player models.

Not possible, lockitty.
