NSP option

Post by Alec »

Hey guys,
since this is a reality mod I thaught that thiswould be something to make things quite a bit more realistic...

Basically, when you first spawn and get your rifle out, it has no magazine in it. To prevent jamming when the magazine is loaded, you can press a button (for example S for safety procedure) and you shall do a NSP.

NSPs are "Normal Safety Procedures" and are nearly always executed when you first get given a rifle. It lets you know that there are no live rounds in there so there is no risk of missfire.

Once you have watched the cool animations flow of the rifle being examined, you need to press R to load the rifle.

The safety procedure is not compulsary (you do not need to necesarily do it before loading the mag but it is what you would usually do in real life).

What do you guys htink about this idea?

Thanks,
Alec

Meh..

Yer it doesnt really show a purpose in the game but could be an optional thing, all it really is is a command executing an animation. Not drasticaly hard to do and is cool to watch.

Would be cool if to see weapon jamming in PR. Kind of like in Americas army, altough it isn't frequent it is still there, would add alot of realism in the game IMHO.

Yep indeed. Say if you are joining a team or squad for the first time, you may be given a rifle from someone before you. If you don't do the safety check you may get a jam when it comes to you firing your first round.

If we could incorporate jamming, immediate action drills would come into use. however, the NSP i don't think can be coded in to decrease the chance of jamming. The NSP is used primarily on ranges and such, in conjunction with what the brits used to call "port arms". It was used to check if your gun had a round still in the chamber and such. Its the same everywhere. Handing into armouries and such. NSP is a safety precaution, not an immdeiate action drill, so in the BF2 series it wouldn't really be fesable.

HOWEVER, if you recieve your kit for the first time, or pick up a kit, I see no reason why an NSP couldn't be performed... its just coding and animation thats the issue of course.

Hey Evilhomer,
Yer I remember doing all teh NSPs and stuff when I was on a fullbore shooting corse last year shooting L98s with cadets.
** FOR INSPECTION, PORT ARMS** As I remember the blokey saying :-D

Pleased you agree with the NSP idea when you first spawn under a new kit.

With the coding side I don't have much experience with the battlefield 2 interface.

I have done some coding for CS Source and stuff (made my own live on 3 config for matches which was ran on my client but did the commands on the server) Its all moderatelyl simple.

Theoretically speeking all we need to do is bind a certain key to execute a certain animation file, easier said than done though :p

Thanks for the feedback dude,
Alec

Sounds interesting. The problem as I see it now would be the fact that often when you spawn, especially say, on your squad leader, it's under fire. I think it would be pretty irritating to spawn and get smoked because you couldn't finish your weapons inspection in time.

I think if this happened for a pick-up kit it would be pretty interesting. This would prove to be interesting 'eye-candy' if nothing else. I think this is a pretty good idea, but a more back-burner issue, something to be added later.

All it would be for the L85 would be forward assist, forward assist etc etc.

Or safety on, mag off, pull back the c/handle and lock, tilt rifle to the right so the round sticking out sideways flies out, mag back on, working parts forward, away ya go :) During ops anyway. Range NSPs are safety BS to be perfectly honest.

Nice suggestion though. If needed, I can give one of the Devs the correct procedures, but personally I think it's pretty pointless if it aint going to serve a purpose.

Yeah it will be for eye candy primarily, but may have a role in stoppages etc.

Oh and that Sefety procedure you wrote down is different from the one I was taught ar the RN Tipner ranges in prtsmouth..

Safety On / **** and lock working components to rear / tilt rifle to the left (so the ejection port is facing you) / 3 point check / magazine check / 3 point chech / tug bolt release catch / safety off / fire off empty round into a field or summet / safety on.

same thing for inspection but you do not pull the release catch until told to "ease springs" by the inspector - the butt of the rifle is placed on your right shoulder for easy view of the inspector.

Ah, good old cadet memories 8)

I do think that this is a very good idea. But however, when you first spawn i think your gun should have some live ammo inside as somone spawn cammping you would have a evan better acvantage of killing you if you have to preforme a NSP each time. If you pick up somone els kit then yes, that could be a very good idea.

Also random jams would be a very cool thing, not often but when it dose, you need to preform the NSP. 8-)
