Tracers for rifles to notify when to reload

Post by lonelyjew »

A guy suggested this for regular BF2, and it was kind of useless, but here it will be great. The guy, who was a marine, spoke of how he and others would put in a tracer round in the fifth slot of his mag(25th round fired would be it). They did this because as good as they were at keeping track of how many round they had fired, when the sh*t hit's the fan they knew they would lose count. In PRMM I love the fact that the number of rounds in your mag is a mystery unless you keep count, but it can be annoying at times to either lose a mag, or risk running out of ammo when you need it most. This would be a viable, and realistic way to safe guard going into a firefight with low ammo.

Having tracers for the last 3 rounds would sound good to me

I have to say, this seems the best idea yet for keeping track of ammo. We've tossed around plastic cases (do you want to model, skin, and code them????), bringing back the ammo count, and about a thousand other idea's.

This is so far the easiest and most easily implemented (and yes, I am not a coder). Good idea.

sounds really good, i think this could be a very nice feature and could be a diffrent round for some diffrent guns, Eg. the support gun could be like the last 20 bulliets.

And also, on LMGs when they are belt fed, it would be good if you could add a animation for the last 5 rounds to show when you are almost out you would only see the last 5 in the belt go in the gun :-D

That wouldn't be very smart, now would it? As it would easily signal to your enemy that you are reloading. Kinda like how the "ping" sound when the garand reloads was used by the japanese to time charges. I believe it was done some times with planes during ww2, didn't go too well.

Well unless you feel like counting tracers every 5 shots, oh well. Sure the Garand pinged, but remember who won the war ;)

Had little to do with the Garand, that's for sure. Things like that are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things -- but are weighed very heavily between individual soldiers because one ping can get them killed.

On topic though, I think it's a fantastic idea. People will generally duck & cover when they need to reload, so that's usually the queue to move if that's what you're planning to do.

I support this too and having it on the 25th round instead of the last 3 sounds good. that way then enemy wil be less likley to chage if they know you still have 5 rounds left instead of 2.

same here, 5 bullets left mean maybe 2,5 times dead :-)
for SAW at least 20 rounds left

Hey, in BF2 did the tracers only show up to those behind the shot? I hope that's the case because an enemy shouldn't see it as it is burning from the back of the bullet. If it doesn't act this way I hope you guys at project reality can alter it.

Bullets move so fast so the tracer is a line, not an obscured glow behind the bullet.

Or at least I would think so...

very realistic. we do it with the SA80 rounds, but it's pretty much down to each person's descretion. Personally I do it in the 3rd to last round. But then again I'm a section commander, and fire off about 5 rounds in an attack as Im too busy shouting down a radio :P The rest of my mags to to the 2I/C for 're-distrubution'. The gimpy has 1 in 3 being tracer rounds, so it's all pretty colours when we're tearin' it up :D

I like this idea, gets my stamp of approval. This sounds like a really nice and realistic addition.
