another JDAM idea

Post by charliegrs »

please dont kill me for this just hear me out ok

my JDAM idea borrows heavily from the current Heavy AT kit. so the launcher, lets say for example the SRAW, is replaced by the laser designator. it targets exactly the same as the SRAW, as in you have to keep it positioned on the target to get a hit. now obviously the missile part will be replaced by a JDAM bomb, but instead of spawning right out of the "launcher" it will spawn wayyy up high in the sky, and it wont actually "fall" but it will act just like a missile would, it would follow whereever you are spotting with the designator. now since it spawned so high up, it will travel down which will look just like its gravity is bringing it down when really its basically just a glorified heavy AT missile following its target. and a moving target could be hit by just keeping the designator trained on it. also when the "missile" is fired maybe it could cue the sound of a high flying jet passing overhead.

maybe make it so only an officer kit can do this, or maybe a FAC {forward air controller} kit could be made. like a pickup kit that each side only gets 1 of and respawns like once every 5 or 10 minutes. here is a professionally made visual aid to help people understand:

Loved the graphics, a little bubble with "WTF" coming outta the dudes mouth in the tank woulda made it just awsome.

i like the idea myself, any laser guided killer is good in IMO.

a JDAM is GPS guided, not a LGB. I presume your talking about a LGB system. your exact sysetem has proved to be hardcoded becaseu you cant sent the location to other players due top lack of netcode. Also if you want the spotter to shoot the bomb, the bomb will have to come out of the center of the screen.

this was intended to be a 1 man system im aware of the problem with sending a location to another player. the bomb is simply the "ammo" of the designator. and thank you for correcting me about the JDAM, i meant LGB. but is it really true that the spawnpoint the "bullets" of a weapon cant be moved?

no i remember him posting something about the simrad shooting a bomb that woudl just track like a at missile and it would spawn 500 feet above the simrad and track where you pointed it. well it would not be hard to do, just tell me how to move where the projectile comes from and i will make a weapon that does this.

good idea, we just need to find the name of an existing bomb that uses this technique.

ok so it works kinda, i replaced the missile with a guided bomb that me and cas made, so it would track something but it seemed that the somflam would be aiming above where you were aiming.

this changes where the projectile comes out.

ObjectTemplate.fire.projectileStartPosition 0.13/500/0

so you change that and well you are done, it will shoot a at missile at 500 feet and the missile should track to the target. give me a little more time and i will just make the hat shoot it cus it seems like the simrad is kinda messed.
