[Map] Operation Bang & Burn [WIP]

Post by Anxiety »

[NOTE] [WIP]

Hey Guys , I've been working on this map for about 2 days now , and I just though I should show you all what I've done, Feel free to comment on anything you like - I need the input.

I plan to make it an insergancy map and its 2048x2 iirc

Okay this map is set in the middle-east in a Town/City that has suffered harsh desertifaction( cropable land going to desert ) Its not based on one middle-eastern city , but i did use the resources posted by [R-DEV]UK_Force.

I haven't finished working on the texturing yet as you can tell so don't complain about " There are large white areas everywhere" - i know

I hope you like it =]

Also I plan to make the city as far as the dirt road and right to the "slum" town - but i'm not starting this yet as i need your advice.. us full urban more popular then undergrowth and overgrowth... as you can tell my cities are detailed. and i plan to add the misc object later this week (i've only added buildings plants etc so far)

Anxiety.

i think the map looks ok but i would love to remove those greenish colors from the grass and add some more sand for it even though the buildings an the main point of the map is cool i dont really like those green grass!

A top view (from above) might be nice ;)

Keep up the good work!

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.

The overall look is fine but I really don't like that much grass in it it feels wrong. Looks more like an Indian town than Iraqi. Where there are sidewalks use the ground texture not the road template. I really like the part where there is bridge and palm trees looks really nice. Make streets more dirty and sandy. Keep it up

The map is still in too much WIP, so its early to give some sugestions, but keep the nice work.

Looks cool. For some reason your screenshots remind me of Sim City a lot.

But please, change the name. We don't need any more "operation something" maps.

Loving it so far! One thing I think you should work on is some staggering of some of the buildings, especially the straight rows of small houses, plus adding in other forms of cover (otherwise, with plain straight streets and rows of perfectly aligned houses, it's just not all that fun for infantry).

insurgency /grammar nazi

Lot of work for 2 days. Hope, you aren't texturing the terrain by hand though.

looks good so far...you seem to map the way i do...i can just tell by the process..hehe...

yeah seems fine... a tad clinical in the city...shoudl be a little more chaos IMO...but, usually when i map...i make everything tidy first and then blow/wreck things..

I cringe that you put both the construction crane and the tv tower...I suggest you rethink that...shouldnt have to rely on these items to fill your map and they scream "my first map" I dont know why people do it but they do...hehe...thats half joke so no worries...

i like the general layout..might maybe think about using some statics to integrate an irrigation system into the landscape? could even have some of it filled in by the encroaching desert...

nice job on hand sculpting the terrain in the desert...train line looks good too...

cheers....good luck..

Thanks everyone for the feedback , Today i'm working on it again

Yep Taxi i'll get ride of those "my first map" objects and add a pipe system into the construction site and with irrigation what do you mean (examples) also , iraq is a very green country inside the cities baghdad is very green , but i will add more "patches" of sand storm resedue becuase you all know best.

als o, what doyou think of adding little desert towns over the desert ??

and a industry like oil away from the town ??

OH i just remembered , all the green on the border of the desert is a green blet, they use them in the middle east and africa to stop the advancing of the desert and it works effectivally so it isn't un realistic , just so you all don't worry :)

I found several problems, In 1 pic you have the smae model cars right next to each other, some trees and other objects are in to perfect of lines, and the train is a little long. 3/4's the number of cars would be great. Otherwise it looks great. i cant wait to play this.

Im jealous. :(

Same model cars: soucy, he doesnt even have ground textures done, I dont think tis time to worry about car statics being duplicated... besides, in my pictures of Mogadishu (africa, not middle east, I know) there are probably about 100 white 4 door cars to every non-white car, these places arent always the most car-diverse places with hummers and vipers and such. Even colors... :)

And trees in lines, just because a place is wartorn or suffering, doesnt mean it always was, nor does it mean that there is no city planning or daily life. Sorry to refer to mogadishu, but its where this dawned on me. its seen endless fighting and yet, some pictures I have seen are breathtakingly beautiful. There are places in the city that look absolutely stunning! So I say make the city a city, then add the war in with explosion effects, smoke, fire, etc whatever you need to make it how you want ;)

Anyway, sorry for the long pointless jabber(as IronTaxi would agree, its what Im good at), this looks awesome! We need more city fighting maps!! Keep it up, as I said, Im terribly jealous!

Thanks =]

And as for the train being too long , i live in a town where cargo trains are very much so heard ( they are very loud) and they can ATLEAST 500m long they are huge , my train is about 300...

and i added it becuase when the Canadians / US come over that far hill the insergants are going to need cover - alot of cover .
