Little one for the engineer.

Post by Cpt.Kawakowitsch »

Maybe it has been suggested before, but I didn't found in the list, so I give it a shot.

IMO the engineer needs smoke grenades. This class is supposed to take out objectives like bunkers, Firebases, Tanks, APCs and all that stuff, but it is really hard to sneak up to such a target on open fields. You have to care were the enemy is aiming to and so on, smoke grenades would make the life of an engineer much easier, especially if you are after a tank, one have to place a mine behind the tank, place the C4 sneak away and push the button. On open fields this is difficult to manage. And there are often situations, when you are suppressed by enemy tank/APC fire and no AT-weapons are available.

So give that poor guy 2 or 3 smoke grenades.

Engy weapon slots:
1. Knife
2. Shovel
3. Rifle
4. C4
5. Mine
6. Wrench
7. Field dressing
8. Binocs
9. Grappling hook (on certain maps)

So where would you like those smoke grenades?

If your trying to c4/mine a tank/apc or even a bunker/firebase, throwing a smoke grenade and going at them head on will just get you killed. Besides, you should just get a squadmate to throw em for you.

first of all, engineer is a support kit. If you have ever seen an engineer run at a tank with a pack of c4 in his hand in real life then please tell me. Anti-tank weapons were created for a reason and they are also in the game for a reason.

If you really must attack a tank with an engineer kit (which, I must admit, is extremely fun and effective) then you should be at a disadvantage.

Ok, didn't thought about that slot thing. Hm,... replace the binocs by smoke. As explained before smoke is really useful for that kit. And to that teamwork thing: sneaking up to a tank on your own is way more successfuller than doing it with a squad (to much noise/movement/probabilities to meet enemy infantry etc.).

And throwing smoke will give you some attention form the enemy, but sometimes it would have been very useful, and would be IMO, maybe more useful than the binocs.

Nevermind as Outlawz has "downed" this thread, forget about this small, but useful idea.

Seriously, the binocs are far more useful for the kit than smoke nades. If you really need to sneak up to a tank, let a rifleman throw a nade for you.

And for the supportive character of this kit: The medic has smoke to protect himself, when he is fixing a guy, but if the engi is fixing a vehicle or is building stuff this kit has nothing to protect itself (e.g. an APC can't place smoke by itself afaik). Is the engi a support kit, it can do repairings, laying mines, blowing things, building assets and support his squad with walls of smoke in regard to the "teamwork". And as a nice sideeffect, it is a bit more easier to get rid of enemy vehicles.
And how often the AT-stuff isn't available when it is needed, then the last stand is the engi.

As the engi hasn't a longrange capable gun and his role isn't doing recon as well, what's the use of the binocs? And does a engi has binocs IRL in his standard equipment?

Really? :? ??: I've used engineer countless times and there have been many occasions where a smoke grenade could have saved my life. And then there are times where Wolfe sends me to my death anyways  (while he's nice and safe in his tank). But as Outlawz pointed out, no more slots.

I play a lot of engineer, it's probably my most played class. I think it could definitely could use a smoke, but there isn't anywhere to put it. I'm cool with that though, it's a nicely balanced class. It can blow up tanks, repair stuff, hold its own in CQB. That's good enough for me.

Then we'll give you a paper clip and some string and see how you fair against a tank. Tying the barrel to the tank itself and sticking the pen down it might do it. Paper clip is for last resort if you need to tickle him into surrender

Yep sorry dude, click or press x (one or the other) while driving an APC and youll get smoke, get and apc to do that for you if you need cover + he should be on his gun watching you.

Most people have no idea how to use smoke correctly anyhow. PLus dont forget smoke nades are visible and its not worth lobbing smoke then having to relocate because you know someone is coming. and it dosn't make things perfect or easier in anyway because a lack of a rifleman means you can easily be shot from a distance by an enemy rifle, youll have no one to pick of RPGs while you do repairs, you have no one to act as a distraction for the apc while you C4 it.
Good on suggesting but I like the way that each kit helps make up for the shortcomings of another.

Teamwork is paramount and it always always works.

You could just loose the knife, smokes are handy in a kinds of situations. Throwing smoke to attack a tank is like telling them to move the hell away tho. Could be fun if you have a mine in place, but not to cover you from fire.
If you can read this the ***** fell off.
