I was just flying a bit on Qinling, but when trying to land my EF2000 I approached the airfield from the wrong side, and flew into the redzone. Well, couldn't turn back quickly enough, so the timer ran out and it started to kill me. At the time I finaly flew out of the redzone I was already half dead and bleeding.
This gave me an idea - if not hardcoded - to instead of killing the crewman/pilot, the redzone would slowly kill the vehicle.
Pros:
-Pilot would still have a chance to land his badly damaged plane
-Crewman/driver can repair his vehicle again when back on the battlefield
-For above: no important assets are being wasted anymore (right now, the pilot gets killed, plane crashes down. Crewman gets killed, vehicle will stay out in the redzone forever)
-etc?
No idea if it's hardcoded or not. I sure don't hope so.
