'nother chaingun sound suggestion

Post by BetterDeadThanRed »

My suggestion is that since there is now more quality distance sound effects, that the US aircraft should have more realistic distance sounds. I'm sure everyone has seen that A-10 strafing too close to the infantry video, if you haven't, view it here.

This has the best distance recording of any video I've seen so far. You can hear it the first time at roughly 5 seconds in and a second time at about 29 seconds. I'm not suggesting you pull that specific sound out of the video, but I think it gives a very good benchmark as to what those chainguns sound at a distance.

Although the sound is more distorted, you can also hear the zipper sound at a distance on the M61 as well. I'm pretty sure the first noise you hear is the shells impacting and the second whirring noise is the firing noise catching up.

And just so we are clear, the "puny widdle vulcan" still packs a hell of a punch.

20mm at 6000 rpm. Yeah that could hurt. I actually put in a different sound for the M61 in. Didn't make it into 0.7 I'm afraid :( .

Although I'm just suggesting a far away sound effect, I definitely agree that something needs to be done with that M61 sound.

You did???

Yeah, she needs a new one indeed though I'm rather reluctant to do it because they're rarely used properly. Usually just pisses off the pilot.

You mean the M61? How many ways are there to use it? I mean I killed like 4 AAV's last round in Kashan (and another F-16 landed on me while I was reloading). I put in the M167 sound for it as a placeholder, but I have an actual M61 sound in it on another build somewhere.

I think a Teammate TKed him by landing on a runway that was still in use.

No I was at about 300 kph, and he was too low. If I stayed on the runway I would have smashed into him. I could go up and crash into him, or to the side and save at least ONE F-16. He got shot down about 2 minutes later without killing a thing. Typical.
