Operation Nilla

Post by Darksyde024 »

Finding a cohesive squad that sticks around the whole map is seriously like winning the lotto!

I have noticed squad leaders getting upset, kicking and screaming. People getting vote kicked (I mean wtf is that?) and general abuse to nilla players who simply don’t know better. I mean last night a squad leader got shot at by his own squad and damn near lost it on VOIP. The squady apologized but seriously, it was out of hand. I hate the elite mentality that players have that seemingly expect you to be born with the knowledge of how to play project reality.

I’m by all means no pro, but I think im gonna try creating NILLa Teamwork squads. A squad where a noob can be a noob. Mostly, guys follow along best they can but are kind of afraid to ask questions. Basics first like nilla squads dedicated to support or ground transport. I recommend to the more patient players of PR to do the same.

Most competent SLs won't mind if you lack skill and whatnot, as long as you read the manual and follow the SLs orders. The problem with vanilla newbies is that they like the grab a sniper rifle, and run off somewhere, ignoring the rest of the squad. Someone like that does deserve to be kicked, especially if they're totally unresponsive, and are in the squad only to gain access to sniperwhore kits.

This speaks to very real need for a single player tutorial for PR. Simply reading the manual is not always enough. Not every little detail is covered in the manual and it can be quite vague.

I have yet to run into this yet. I play pretty much only on TG so...

Plenty of times I'm just another pubber with no friends in sight. I join a squad...they are good or sucky. More often than not I just create my own. If nobody joins (rare), I become a transport guy or help the CO...whatever. Everyone should learn how to lead a squad. With newer, less teamwork guys you do a lot of babysitting initially just trying to keep guys in-line and together. By together I mean 20-40m's...preferably closer. Once they get together and start having a good time via good teamwork (addictive) then they do it on their own. Maybe I've just been lucky everytime...who knows.

I've been thinking about this and I have come up with two conclusions to solve this problem.

Have everyone that hasn't played PR before take a series of tests, if passed they're given links to download PR from. Although it may cut the amount of new players the mod gets, it'll weed out the guys that don't even care about getting a new experience from the game and the ones that raise havoc in the server.

I've been playing PR off and on since it first came out and the thing I've figured out is.. Join an active clan and pub with them, its the only way to secure a good squad while playing. Without teamwork, you get no where in this game.

Way to turn PR into a private elitist club?

no, not at all. you're completely lost if you don't read the manual, or you're bugging everyone while playing. this or something like it would be a gentle shove in the right direction. It would boost the gameplay experience if every nilla noob had the basics down pat before playing. other wise they're turned off and start tk'ing everyone and ruining the regular PR players experience.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather them take a couple minutes and take a test before they get into the game and start disrupting everything just because they cant figure out how to get a pilot kit.

You wouldn't want them to take a couple minutes of their own time to figure out how to play PR, rather than bugging everyone in game?

Im pretty sure requiring players to take a test just to play a game would turn off more players than ever.

I hate it when squad leaders flip out at people. Kick them, tell them what to do, but don't flip out, christ!!! We're not in an actual war, and sometimes the more "intense" people seem to forget that. Sometimes our squad's VOIP will be completely clogged with the SL yelling at some guy about who he should've shot or something, and the other guy yelling back, it's ridiculous.

The absolute worst part of playing PR is not having new players,
it's not people grabbing the sniper kit,
it's not 10 people waiting at the airfield for a chopper/jet..........

The worst part is: people not listening and not working with their team/squad

Some people come to pr willing to learn and change,
others come with the vanilla attitude buried deep inside of them,
maybe they have an attitude problem or just think that their shit doesn't stink and know better than everyone else or whatever.

The fact is that some people are willing to learn and others are not,
this can not be changed, you can not change a persons personality,
they either are or are not a person with a character suited to pr,
some people are happy to work as a team and others think they are better than a team.
you can call that elitist if you want but really it's just a fact of life,
we are not all the same.

That being said, i will always try to teach a new player how to play pr,
i will always give them a chance (many chances),
but if they refuse to listen time and time again, as far as i'm concerned.......GET AWAY FROM ME
you don't want to work as a team..........GET AWAY FROM ME

There will always be less desirable people playing pr just like there will always less desirable people in life.

Having a training level in either S/P (or better still M/P) is a fantastic idea,
it will certainly help relieve some of the frustrations of regular pr players
and should help new people decide if pr is really for them.

I do hope that if a training level is created,
it's not just sitting in the S/P section of the menu screens where most people will not even look,
it should be shoved in your face when you load up pr so it's the first thing you see.

My best advice Darksyd is to find a clan with people you get along with and join,
for me this is where the best gaming is to be found (with friends).

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.
