This is just a request that the Dev's not pull any punches when it comes to making future releases of PR.
Don't worry about people who don't have systems that aren't up to the challenge of running the newer releases... They will be back as soon as possible.

Go crazy with the great looking trees, the water misting off the river, the high poly. vehicles, and the gorgeous looking weapons and explosions.

I am saying this as one who has a grossly outdated comp. (P4 1.8Ghz, 1.5 gig RAM, 6200 series Vidcard, and a 15" CRT) And I hate to think that I am one of the people keeping them from really seeing what this mod can become.

But if you only got gameplay its still not good, a game need to look good to, if not there would be no "fealling" when you play it. I vote yes for high poly weapons and maps with lots of trees ;)

I do see part of your point, but there's no point in screwing over the percentage of the player-base whose computers could not keep up.

However, letting graphical development stagnate because of this percentage would be equally pointless. It's best to cater to the average player, who can play the game without major performance issues, than to hold everything back for those who have truly lacking hardware.

And what about view distance, grass drawing distance, size and density of smoke, weapon draw distance. Increasing any of those would affect both gameplay and graphics. I don't have a high-end PC, infact almost any new game would run on my computer on LOW only. But PR works very smoothly at high settings. If someone is having lags then it's probably due to 8xAA + 16xAF, or a software problem, or 1gb of RAM (instead of 2).

I belive increasing view distances, weapon drawing distance and stuff like that, won't affect perfomance much but will increase gameplay significantly.

Agreed.
Bf2 is an old game, with old graphics and small system requirements. So if the Devs can make it look better, I think they should do it.

This is a bit off-topic, but is there a way to get around the GeForce 8600GT's anti-aliasing weakness? I can run everything else on High, but FPS goes straight to Hell as soon as I turn on even the lowest AA setting.

Back on topic, view distance is more important than ANYTHING in your video menu. Level the playing field before you go about making the playing field look pretty.

I definitely agree with increasing weapon draw distances if possible, and overall view distance would be nice as well, although that's a bit more iffy, since that could easily cause performance issues.

We all like the pretty pictures, but anything that gives those with the best hardware a serious advantage over those with lesser comps just isn't a good idea.

I agree that gameplay >> graphics, but we can have both. There's no need to go overboard on statics and textures, or to simply use stick figures either. But it's not mystery that the two new maps are very needy, so I don't think that continuing down that road much further is a great idea.

The grass is the only thing I'd like changed. It may hurt but that is an enhancement no question.

On my ATI 3870, Clark, i have my AA at set to 'let my application decide' setting and use the ingame AA on the video options in BF2. The videocard application settings act weird on battlefield.

I remember some time ago, I increased the view distance on Kashan up to 3km (I think). You could see the entire level from the chopper, and there was still no performance issues (at all), even with 63 bots. And that's with my poor PC.

I think the grass is the biggest problem. I doubt it can be changed though, would cause to much lag.

Oh yeah I remember reading somewhere that forcing AA in video driver settings may cause performance problems.
Btw I have 7600GT and 4xAA, works fine.

All I'm saying is that I'm hobbling along just fine with a comp that was purchased in 2002... and I'd hate to see the mod get chopped off at the knees b/c of a percentage (most likely small) can't hang.

PS. I run all my settings on low. cut view dist. down to 60% or 70% kissed chopper flying goodbye a longtime ago.... have only flown a jet once on a local server AND limit myself primarily to medic, engi, SL or commander roles b/c I can't see a half assed decent distance. All the while still have a hell of a lot of fun!

Why handicap PR for a few, when this could really be great for a vast majority?
