Post by SnipA »

Hey all, its been a while since i last played PR. It was 0.5 i think ;)

may i just say what a great mod this has turnt out to be!! :D

But there is just one question i have, that is when i spot an enemy, it doesn't register, like a will spot an APC and my fella will go 'Enemy Activity over' or somthin like that. But it doesnt say it over the radio. I was just wondering why :D

Welcome back :D
It's the new spotting system, it was implemented to avoid Q-spam and all abuse that comes with it (spotting enemies behind the hills and following their movement without line of sight). I suggest to read the manual... a lot things have been changed since PR 0.5 ;)

Thanks for the help guys :D

Will the manual help me out with my next question :D

I read somewhere in the forums about when sniping you need to wait like 15 seconds before you shoot, because i find when i have someone's head in my sights i miss

Only Squad Leaders can effectively spot things now, they have right click options and they have extra spotting options on main map they bring up with capslock key.

If you aren't a SL then you can't spot. Don't bother using the commo rose to spot as it is just spamming the system with noise, prevents your team from hearing enemy approaching. Plus audible noises come out of your player when you do leading the enemy right onto you. Noise discipline is paramount!!!!

use VOIP now to pass on messages. There is a nice compass meter at the bottom of the screen, learn to pass on effective messages using VOIP and that compass and always know where you are from your SL so he gets the message straight, can use his uberl33t powers of spotting to announce things for the rest of the team and can use VOIP to pass messages to the commander.

As to the deviation issues, unfortunately a problem occured with some of the weapons. You will find the deviation at rest too great on marksmen and sniper rifles and whilst this does cause a hardcore clique of players to giggle at players who all call themselves variants of "sniper" in their username and wondering why they die over and over where their special uberl33t kits' bullets aren't hitting the mark, this problem will be resolved soon/eventually/when we've stopped giggling. Meanwhile people will have noticed another weapon in the arsenal went the other way, whoops!

Thilly MrD, we aren't giggling... okay, maybe a little.

I've still been able to snipe succesfully for the most part, it's just the longer distance shots I have trouble hitting the head whether I line up my crosshairs above or on the target.

My way of sniping until it's "fixed":

See a target, stay perfectly still (no movement with WASD). If the target is not moving, line up your crosshairs directly at the chest, wait like 2 seconds, and fire. If the target is moving, lead the target with your mouse (still not using WASD), and takes a little practice but you can hit moving targets, I've done it. Please note if your target is far away enough, don't try to hit it unless it's standing still and you have a clear shot at the chest.

Ive hit moving targets at 600 meters with the sniper rifles.... it wasnt that hard really I dont know why everyone is bitching so much...

But yea I actually kind of like the fact now that snipers are actually SPOTTING stuff, instead of just seeing how many kills they can rack in.

Squad leaders can spot, and also snipers can spot using their scope or their binoculars.

However, NO ONE can spot and track infantry, only vehicles. You can spot an infantry on the map but it will stay static and will not track the target

Using VOIP, the compass and alittle common sense communicate the following always when you spot enemy units, no exceptions, nothing less ladies and gentlemen:

Type of enemy and numbers
E.g. Approx 6 enemy infantry

Bearing
E.g. 200degrees

Range
E.g. Approx 150 meters

Details on enemy movement or any action

E.g. Moving north and have not spotted us yet

p.s. Hello fuzz, sorry been quite busy recently, might be around for TG password night Sunday...you?

Once again using the bearing system to spot does not work unless you are practically next to eachother. The grid/numkey system works sooo much better. Bearings work wonderful for armor crews , but not for infantry.

^ That won't work either.

Enemy infantry !

Ehm (2 second delay to open the map, another 2 seconds to get the grid)...

Damn, how did he get us ?

I agree, I use the bearing system all the time, often supplemented by obvious landmarks such as hills, rock formations, buildings, etc. Your squad is all going to be relatively close to one another, so I've found that this is reasonably effective.

I was really confused when I heard that the sniper rifles were bugged, because I had just killed about a dozen people on qwai using both the USMC and PLA DMRs. Now I'm not making 600m shots, but I don't rock as hard as you.
