Blinking 'eck I've been shot!

Post by Sadist_Cain »

How about adding a black screen when shot that lasts for just over half a second and acts like an eye opening up afterwards.

I'm thinking this because we cannot force prone in PR and at the moment there isn't that much difference between when a round flies over your head and when one hits you in the chest.

Afaik It'd be a natural human relex to blink when a piece of lead hits you at 1500fps :P

Main reason though is this should be able to get rid of the current situation where you can shoot someone and (though blurry) they can calmy turn around to face where they've been shot from and retaliate.

Imho having you eyes shut for that split second when you're hit will definately encourage people to dive for cover much more, and will also give the obvious disadvantage to whoever gets shot first.

(please no **** about "ohhh lets include sneezing too! " not in the mood for sarcy comments on this one)

Point is that if you get shot you're going to blink, some might have their eyes closed for longer but you will certainly blink (at least) and this is what can give an enemy his advantage.

I think having the screen flash instantly blank (shutting eyes hard) and and eyelid kinda thing slowly opening with everything still blurry would be pretty cool and immersive (not too slow though... you're gna be panicking Imo :P )

Edit: Ahhhhh Cack it I've put this in general discussion cos I'm far too ub3r for the suggestions thread :P lol
*****THREAD NEEDS MOVING INTO SUGGESTIONS FORUM, MY BAD SORRY :'(*****

It's been suggested a million times ... and yes it would be great to see ingame
Using the flashbang effect would be perferable imo but it has the same goal anyway

Could get damn irritating, and may be easily exploitable but we'll see how it goes...

Glad folk like the idea :D (still need moving here btw) Symplify I understand your concerns of how it could get annoying, Imho it would need testing a bit just to get the right "blink" feel.
The idea would be that you'd blink just enough the you'd be very encouraged to lay down and give the enemy a chance to lay more hits into you but also you'd open your eyes rather sharpish (you're at war after all) and "wake up", though with blurry vision, and be able to run away.

I don't see how it could be exploited :S A soldier would rarely be able ot say "Heeey that guy shot me and made me blink and then I died!"

I think this'd really give feel to being shot, much rather than bolting through forests being shot and still knowing exactly where you're going, It would be scary, disorientating and all sorts :P

Sadist Cain, that is a brilliant idea, and I support it.

IIRC it is hard to add such effects, the flashbang one and the smoke ones themselves are somewhat hardcoded.

When you blink, you should take .3 of a second to refocus.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't like this idea. I have never been shot or shot at, so no disrespect for those who have.

When being engaged in a firefight, you have lots of adrenaline flowing through you, so it seems likely that one could be severely wounded without even knowing it.

And you can tell us this for a fact given your extensive experiences being shot, right? =P You may be right, you may be wrong, but I'd like somebody else to weigh in on this one.

I don't know about you guys, but unless I'm actively thinking about blinking I don't notice myself doing it. Totally not the brain ignoring it or anything. Closing your eyes for an extended period of time (Upwards of half a second or more) is an attention grabber, but that's likely because you're focusing on it in the first place.

I'm all for suppression effects, perhaps even some tweaks to them, but this... not so much.

As far as adrenaline goes, a buddy of mine was hit with a couple fragments in a mortar attack and didn't notice until somebody mentioned he was bleeding a short time later. Although your mileage may vary when it comes to being wounded.
