So we all know the random tool in the bf2 editor is pretty f'ked up right? Well, I discovered trick this while
working on an FH2 map. So here we go:
1. Go to the terrain editor and select the random tool.
2. Select your desired brush size.
3. **IMPORTANT** Select a brush strength no higher then 5.
4. Tap your left mouse button once to apply. You should have something like this:

Don't worry now, you didn't just screw up your perfect heightmap.
5. Select the smooth tool. Choose a size a few larger than the size of your random tool brush.
As for the strength, you can play around with this. I usually go 90-100%.
6. Put your mouse right over where you made ur indentation, and smooth it out until you get a result similar to this:

And there you have it. Nice little bumps to add a little variation to any desert map.
