Run Over Obstacles

Post by DeltaFart »

Ok, I'm not entirely sure if this ties into the already suggested destroyable statics but here goes
I watched a number of times a tank just rolling through a barbed wire obstacle, with his infantry support having to go around the whole entire facility(this was at Qwai River, the processing plant) to the front while the tank wreaked havoc on the infantry in the plant until an engineer and SRAW took it out. Now it's not that I wasn't happy to see the T99 taken out, it's just that he could have been saved had that barbed wire been taken down. Ok i was on the opposite team but I just saw a problem with that picture.
Is there anyway you could make it when a tank or vehicle rolls over the barbed wire it gets either "flattened" or destroyed to symbolize that? It would allow for tanks to have constant infantry cover while they clear the places they go.
THat or maybe make a bangalore torpedo to destroy the barbed wire.

Honestly I like teh idea of both, because you dont always have a vehicle around to take down the wire.

Other Ideas/Critism?

Ehhh...One more thing....How much damage to treads does it take to disable a tank? Cause I watched this one infantry man with a SMAW hit the side of a T99 and I figured the damage system would stop the tank, because the infantry just basically hit the wheels...Turns out the tanks runs this guy over....Just curious

I'm pretty sure 1 tank round destroys barbed wire, but it's 2 AM and I don't feel like checking, so I'm not gonna.

As far as disabling, the BF2 engine doesn't allow you to make a certain area trigger an action. The best the DEVs could do is make a certain amount of damage have a chance of making the tanks turret or treads become immobile. So it really doesn't matter where you hit it, as a matter of fact 3 or 4 LATs anywhere on the tank are generally very effective at immobilizing some part or another, even though you need at least another 4 to destroy it.

Hmmm didn't realize that, couldn't a tank hitting it also take it down?

Oh really now?

And an infantry squad should always have an eng with C4.

I wonder, if you could make the treads and turret of a tank a "child" object of the hull, like a MG on a technical, and then make 0 "HP" on the treads cause a colapse?

Would it even be possible to make the tanks and other heavy vehicles(I have a feeling a HMMWV would get tangled in the wire) able to destroy the wire obstacles just by running over them, cause it stupid having the tanks go right through a wire wall taller than the tank is, and it doesn't affect the obstacle.

I remember once someone coded some trees that could be run over like the street signs in some cities. This would be nice to have in some of the wooded maps, even though it could possibly turn the game into a lagfest.

Hm, do this and leave the poles remaining, then? Maybe instead of the barb wire sections being 3 poles and 2 lengths of wire, make it 2/1, then double the amount per area you can have (giving you the same length of wire). There is the problem with placement though.

Once "run down", it's HP would be something less, allowing a "wrench" to repair it a bit, up to standing again.

C4 kills the whole thing (evaporates).

I saw an old training documentary on the canadian forces : when there is a barb wire obsacle in front of an infantry squad, they take one guy, put his flack jacket on and jumps flat on the barb wire, flattening it while his teammates jump over the obstacle.

But I think you can only have 1024 of those dynamic coded objects... and seeing as some maps now come very close to that number... it'd be hard to pull off...

Thats counting destructible buildings, fishing crates, those wagon things, stop signs, barrels that explode, etc.
