Weapon position/origin

Post by rymac »

The current weapon position/origin feel really unrealistic and annoying. I would love to see the Origins of the weapons getting more centered. Peace Im out

Please let us know how...if any this makes it more real?

If anything we shouldn't see a gun at all until you bring up the iron sights

I was just thinking about this not too long ago. I just didn't feel like I had a good method for explaining it.

Contrary to popular belief, the player models are never holding their rifles from the hip mounted position. And in a combat zone, you wouldn't do that either. From the very basic, basic things I've learned as a poole, you would keep your rifle directly centered in front of you. You wouldn't be using the sights however, but with the M16 and M4 you would be using the front post as your pointing tool.

I always figured it was on our shoulder.

Notice that their rifles are kept with the butt on their shoulders.

There is no way to produce a satisfactory result in this regard in BF2

arma has it better, when moving the rifle is held at rest, unless you choose to have it at shoulder where you can see it (in which case you move slower and the rifle looks less steady than when you stand still)

A picture would help. Ive got an idea, but honestly, its not a big deal by any means...

I wouldnt mind having the rifle only be in the bottom right corner angled down.

let me do a quick paint pic of it ; )

But this would need new animations for all movement, and that aint gonna happen any time soon at all ;)

Besides, you cant pull it up, its one or the other, like someone said, ArmA has it how many of us would like....

anyways, it's an interesting idea but just one of those "it would be cool but don't have enough animators to do this" things...

Would be interesting, but would necessitate animating the first person view model, as well as the actual soldier model. Then, if you get surprised you can't fire "from the hip", and then if you're prone, your gun is pointing downwards, half buried in dirt and so fourth. Since I don't think there are prone animations for the first person model (could be wrong here) then I don't think it could be done and look right.

If there was a way we could lower our weapons like in arma then it would be a nice addition that would add to realism and immersion, and it might be possible through some coding magic, but something about this screams "hardcoded". Even if it wasn't, it might be a bit too much work for something so insignificant, since you spend a lot of time in battle or defending where your weapon would need to be raised at all times.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

I dont think thats hardcoded and for further explaining what I mean I will refer to this picture: FPSBANANA > CS:S - Counter-Strike: Source > Skins > AK-47 > Timittytim's Bofors AK5 > Screens

If the weapons would be heald like that rifle I would LOVE this mod even more than i do now. 11/10 - this would also increase accuracy in close combat, when your surprised by an enemy and maybe dont have time aim with your ironsight/scope..peace

I dont think it affects aiming, because you just aim for the center of your screen...

although it looks less arcadey[and cooler] than the current way out to the side then angled in way its shown, but its really not a big deal.... you should be aiming from your sights anyway, and if you arent, i know it sucks, but youre gonna be less accurate. (^_-)

In all honesty, in my opinion, its just too much work for like, next to no gain.

Well like you said it doesnt affect the aiming as you just aim for the centre of the screen, But it adds to realism and it gets alot more fun., trust me. And like you said almost no gain. Thats not true...It becomes so much more fun.

How can a weapon position influence entertainment ?

(not that I would mind some changes with the weapon 'handling')

how can weapon position effect entertainment?`...ofcourse it will do that. For example CS/CSS original also have the weapons far to the right and low. if you download skins or change the origins yourself this will greatly improve gameplay. trust me...it just feels so much better with the weapon more centered.

I think you've played CS:S too much... and now you have problems with "strange" weapon position in PR.
For me CS:S weapon position looks strange and unrealistic... Why? Because I didn't played CS:S so much.
As you can see, it's all about the habit.
