Proposed Helo Passenger Idea...

Post by Jimmy_Smack »

Ok, nothing bothers me more than picking up a squad in a BH and them not telling me where to go. I propose that when a squad or an individual troop hops in a helicopter, a giant stamp with red "classified" font stamps their screen saying "TELL YOUR PILOT WHERE YOU'RE GOING FFS!!!" It wouldnt stay there but it would help greatly.

I'm not really serious with the stamp idea but just some LARGE text or something.

Is there anyway to bind a pilot to a squads map temporarily while the SL is sitting in a helo?
This would enable the pilot to see move markers while the SL was attached to the helo.

Im sure it has been addressed before.

Generally speaking, I give them 30 seconds until going to 300 feet and bailing out.

Here's what I do:

1) Ask where they're going. If they reply, take them there. Else:
2) Check the squad list to find their squad
3) Click on their SL to find him
4) Check with rest of the pilots if the area near the SL is hot
5) If it's clear, take them to either:
a) their RP
b) their SL

Then, when I get back to safety, I yell at them over team chat with: "PILOTS CAN'T READ MINDS - TELL THEM WHERE YOU'RE GOING".

Failing that, if there's a job that needs doing urgently - like a flag just went neutral because the entire team left it undefended - then take them near to the job that needs doing and force them to do it.

Exacly. Im doing a lot of flying lately and I think Im good at it. Im doing same thing as you, but its annoying sometimes.

What I hate most is lack of comunication. I try to be a SL when flying so I can contact a commander as well to ask about hot zones and take direct orders of troops transportation.

But sometimes... Im just leaving the server if 5th time in the row Im flying into the extremely hot zone(read: APC 2 vodniks and a whole squad or two and have to run without drop/pick up, be destroyed or barely avoid with burning engienes - which might be sometimes fun, but...)cause there is no one to reply for my questions where to go and whats the situation around F3 or so.
But this is a different story and a problem of hardcoded noobs I suppose...

Reddish_Red: We're fine...

Random.. ehmmm... "player": Give me the chopper. No. I want to fly. No. But I want to, get out from it now or I TK you. ... ... ... No

I think it has been suggested before- the SL communication thing is a GREAT idea. If mumble is integrated into the mod the whole thing would be avoided as you can only speak to people who are w/in range.
I think right now there is a problem because there are ONLY 2 types of voip como. One is SL to squad and the other is SL to CO. - Prasie the lord if there is actually a CO and you can communicate the heli drop coords through him, but how often is there a CO? I don't believe the engine has the ability to add another voip communication line. It is set up with 2 and probably will stay 2.

I have heard many pilots and SL's mention the idea of only temporary communications with the pilot. Even if it only happens when you get into the vehicle (APC's included)- it would be a great tool to have.

I am 9/10 times on the servers clan vent and this has very often eliminated the issue of coords communication.

so we either get on vent/TS, use mumble if the server has it.... or type and pray the pilot drops you at those coords. Way too often I ask for c2kp3 and end up in b4 kp4. I understand the hot LZ. but if it isnt hot- DROP US WHERE WE ASK PLEASE!

Yup, some more VOIP would be very usefull, like integrated mumble or something.

Could use a quick ''Where do you want to go?'' message when you enter a trans helo

Add a "Where too?" message to the command rose.

Mumble solves this

Yes, mumble does solve this, but I believe there is some weird type of speed lag, since the chopper is going so fast and the noise of the chopper can also drown out the voices.

There's not a good way of solving this, without a new engine that has built in localized VOIP. Players who don't communicate aren't going to do better just because there is a giant and annoying message very time they get in a helicopter.

A better way would be to have all pilots automaticlly have all the move markers of the squads, kind of like the commander

That the SL can drop that yellow marker on the Map by himself..

Not really realistic for someone to have a 3 dimensional arrow appear in his sights :P
Just make em use mumble or have that little message popping up saying ''yo where ya goin'g man?''
