RAMDisk
Stick with me here i will be goign off topic a bit at the beginning.
I have been a player of eve online for sometime (read years). Though a fantastic game, it has always suffered from performance issues, especialy when you have alot happeneing on screen (such as 300 enemy ships)
It has been mentioned a few times that performance can be increased by using RAMDisk
(link to eve online thread and its guide)
Basicly it involves storing you cache onto a little bit of reserved ram. I have toyled with doing it for a while, but im not sure i want to sacrafice some of my ram for just one game, and im still undecided.
But what i did wonder is if this could also be used for a boost in performance in PR, and if so what could be put on the ramdisk that would improve PR and what would it help improve? Now im lucky enough to have a pretty nice PC already so im not sure if it would improve anything for me, but for people who might not have such a nice system as me, could it help them?
Anyways i thought i would throw it out to the community and see what people think, obviously im not here to promote doing this but i thought it might be worthy of a thread.

On maximum details on Al Basrah my system memory usage reaches 2.3gig[2gig ram], but I really don't feel any extra lag or something.
I can see a use for it, perhaps putting maps on the RAMDISK to reduce the load time..ever noticed when reconnecting how fast the level loads?its because its already in the memory.

Re: RAMDisk
I have 16, but every time I try to load the starter (shortcut on Desktop from PR/mods/bin Folder) I get errormessages.blud wrote:You would need at least 4 gigs of ram on your computer to even begin to think about trying something like this. Do you have 4 gigs?
Does anybody has experience to put the PR into/onto a Ram-Disk?

Re: RAMDisk
Ramdisk is not going to help with performance. BF2 doesn't load stuff in real time.

I've tried the wrong thing then. I still try to find a way to speed up my map loading time.[R-DEV]AlonTavor wrote:Ramdisk is not going to help with performance. BF2 doesn't load stuff in real time.

What's your ram? I occasionally saw PR performing much better on faster one(+10 fps on ddr3 667-->1600)

assetruler69: I've seen things you smurfs wouldn't believe. Apaches on the Kashan. I watched burned down tank hulls after the launch of the single TOW. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to give up and respawn.

16 Gig and I made the Ramdisk 12 Gig so the whole game fit in it.[R-DEV]rPoXoTauJIo wrote:What's your ram
And sure now I reread the log I see where the Problem is. I'll change it and see if it work!
