[Coding] Improved Eryx mod [WIP]
Shit sorry mods, shouldve gone in here!!
Hi I think the Eryx is overpowered at present and not representative of its real life counterpart, operating more like a TOW.
I have modded the Eryx to how I think it should operate. Basically, it is slower, more manoeverable and has a more visible flame out the back. Here is a video to demonstrate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMGGIvUNOS4[/youtube]
It moves at an accurate speed now, taking approx. 4-5 seconds to reach its max range of 600m. It is easier to follow moving targets now, but the missile is easier to see and defeat with smoke than the present lasergun edition. Overall the missile is still pretty lethal, but there is some scope for escaping it now, if you can see the launch. Opinions?
I am also working on an improved predator, that will be quite different to the Eryx!

Here you go Marco, This shows the controls. Theres a custom optic to come, just finishing it today.....Its nicely guidable without being ridiculous. Wont be laser guided as it is an optically tracked wire guided missile. Downside is it cant interface with other soldiers. The MASSIVE upside is there nothing a tank can do to detect or disrupt your missiles path. Contrary to PR belief, laser guidance has its drawbacks, notably that modern tanks can detect when you're pointing a beam at them. This tends to make them very angry.
The beauty of the Eryx is no one knows your aiming at them until they see the missile.

Ouch... Whats the effective range of the SRAW? Coz we might have a balance issue hereMescaldrav wrote:No after 600m you run out of wire so it just flies on randomly. Gravity takes over and eventually it hits dirt....
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience

Argh I've stupidly posted this twice, as I posted it in the Suggestions bit first, and now I've got two interesting threads running about the same thing!
Anyway, to clarify. After 600m you have no guidance with either missile, so unless the missile is right next to a target when the wire runs out, you're not going to hit anything. Where the balance issue may come in, is SRAW is only effective on MOVING targets at up to 200m. In its favour however, it does have a warhead that goes off over the top of a tank, so its missile is a lot more lethal than the Eryx. It is also fire and forget.
I might also mention that SRAWs overwhelming downside is that at present, I cant make it work properly

Is the missile really that controllable? I guess I'm used to the sluggishness of the old Milan inflight adjustment system where I've literally swung the entire missile post to one side to get the thing to turn onto a moving target fast enough in the last few seconds.
The turning ability of that seems to imply more UT2004 than present day technology and standard "1G" Earth gravity.

Not sure Mr D. Never used one, and the old tinterweb is proving reluctant on data and videos for this particular beasty.
I do agree that it might be too manoeverable. Its guidance system is just an updated version of what you used on MILAN so I could use your advice. It was made to hit a moving APC without having to lead the target, which is what the Eryx is supposed to do, so that part of it is spot on. It also moves at the correct speed. What I'll look at changing is how sharply it can turn to a new heading, which should sort out the UT2004 vibes......Nevertheless, its a step in the right direction no?
