multiple computers

Post by kylerthegod »

hi boys,

I ave a questoin i hope some of you either did or know someone in a similar scenario then what i am going to ask. Please only facts, no guesses ;)

I have 2 PC's at home and consider playing with my son. I am going to acquire a 2nd BF2 game, so 2 different CD keys.

But since we are in one home, mounted on a router, we will technically have 1 IP address.

Is this possible with the BF2 game, the way it is designed or is the fact i have 1 IP and 2 connections to the same server (this is what i want to do) going to simply not work, like only one PC would...

Let me know and Thanks in advance.

If its a Network router then each PC should be given an individual IP address and therefore BF2 should be fine. Atleast thats as far as I know. What type of router is it? I'll drop a message to someone I know that does computing and ask him.

it will just work fine, because routers use NAT (Network adress translation), so BF2 servers will consider you 2 as 2 different clients with same IP but with different TCP port.

yeh like what been mentioned its possible but to avoid certain difficulties (DHCP leaseing etc) you should really set each PC with a static internal IP rather than letting the router assign one automatically, just to make sure.

eg (simple NAT example):

your router ip address is: 192.168.0.1

1st pc :192.168.0.2

2nd pc: 192.168.0.3

All on the same subnetmask of 255.255.255.0

Default DNS been your router address: 192.168.0.1
Default gateway ( on each PC )is your router address:192.168.0.1
Ingame name frazzb0b : All round good guy and minge-itsu master.

Absolutely no need to a static IP address at all. DHCP is fine

at1as is spot on - the NAT does all the work in getting the packets from A to B, and back to A again. That's it's job.

Yep it will work fine. I have also done this but you have to watch out for chuck norris, as he may come through your interwebs.
