How about those sounds, Hooah?

Post by AirCasper »

So this week a buddy of mine opened his own pro recording studio here in Toledo.

I got him into PR awhile back, but with his family and work he doesn't have much time to play.

I was thinking with the US Army being added in .8 should we keep the sound files the same as the USMC?

Even then, should we keep the USMC sounds the same as BF2?

I think it would be a nice addition to PR to redo and add a few needed sounds to PR.

example, we have the USMC in game... yet no "oorah" sound clip (WTF?!)

and you aren't going to add the army with out "Hooah" are you?

(the Brit's have "wilco", all im saying)

--------------------------------------------------

Anyways, to the point

I asked a few friends of mine who served in the military (both Army, and Marines) if they would be interested in recording a few sound clips to present to PR.

They are all for it.

So here's a question for the PR community

Should the sounds for the USMC (and Army) be replaced from those EA provided us with.

if yes, all of them or just some?

If no, Would you be interested in additional sound clips? such as Oorah ect.

one idea I seen pop up in the forums was to replace the medic sounds (trying to find that post again)

And for the Dev's: I would like to know your thoughts before I get the guys into the studio. If you like the Idea, do you have a possible script of phrases that EA left out that you think will benefit PR?

Throw your Ideas out there, let me know.

New sounds please, the old ones are getting stale. And I loved selecting G.I.s in Red Alert 2 and hearing them say "hoorah!" Shoe-in IMO. :)

^I say go for it.
But if the Devs don't use it would be a waste.
I'd wait for a Devs answer.

Offtopic: You have some good ideas :/

The army says "Hooah" not "hoorah".

.....And like my teacher who was in the air force says, the air force says "yippe!! sign me up for another 4 years of ****!" :)

LOL WOW!! how did i typo that

Correcting

------------------

In addition

It will be 6 guys coming in, So it may be a nice variation to the (what sounds like) 2 voice actors EA used.

Then again is that too much variation? We wouldn't want the same player sounding like 6 different people; but we wouldn't want it to get annoying sounding like just one.

could we have specific sounds for each class? That way medics sound like a different person than say Riflemen?

We are able to have different skins for each class (example riffle men are black, and medics are white and unshaven)

Or is all of this just a crock of shi*t because we have voip, and need to work towards utilizing voip more.

(which would be nice, if the voip wasn't so damned hard coded)

------------------------------------------------

Addition.

I was thinking maybe a number and letter system for the SL.

I came up with the idea after reading the post "Can SL voip pilots"

Sometimes servers are left with out a commander, It may be nice for the SL to pull up G and then 5 and then keypad 2

rather than have to type it all out (sometimes pilots don't read the chat, and other times they take off before you can type it out)

Just an idea.

So I am putting a small list together

for:

Spotting Fire base
Spotting Bunker
Spotting rally point
Spotting Weapons Cache

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta...
0 - 10
(so they can call call out "Move to Landing Zone Alpha)

of course Oorah, and Hooah mixed in with "affirmative, and roger" maybe replace the "Okay" with Hooah; The Okay sound always kind of bugged me.

Any more?

These are just a few ideas; I'm sure with a few pizzas and a couple beers they wouldn't mind hanging out for awhile.

You have to be kidding me!

O.O I fully believed it was some British thing O.O

I even asked some brit over voip in game what the hell it meant

he even said it was a brit thing! lol which sealed the deal for me! haha wow.

I was like... "Those b@st@rds at EA added a calling for brit's but not the USMC"

well then, :D luckly I didn't tell my friends thats what made me initially wish to record the voices.. I would have looked like a dumb as$

thanks for the heads up though.

Love the idea, but focus on some more urgently needed sounds such as one for pilots saying there going down, and some for spotting firebases or bunkers. I'm all for it, great suggestion.

I think that for the choppers we need "Stop firing, you maggots!" ;)

Now seriously, what about "Enemy truck spotted" for the support trucks?

Yes a ceasefire sound would be useful, not only for helis but for when you are being shot at by friendlies. Also, I read somewhere that medics really appreciate being thanked when they heal or revive you, which certainly makes sense. The problem is that there is no accompanying text, so for the Chinese or MEC i makes no sense. Would it be possible to implement a sort of within hearing range text?
