This idea is only for chopper passingers. As of right now if a crew needs an air lift out of a hot zone the chopper comes picks up the crew and away they go. IE it takes no time for the squad to load up and get out of doge.
But if you look at a real life chopper dust off in a hot zone under enemy fire there are two major factors not in play in PR:
One Dust: This is being worked on right now by Alex so this will be a new factor in dust offs from a major hot zone.
two Rotor blades: This is my biggest pet peeve right now in PR. The Rotors on choppers don't have any kind of effect that makes the player keep his/her head down. in real life you have to get into a chopper in a low run or you head could be chopped right off by the rotor blades, That or be nocked down by the force of the wind that a chopper makes on landing.
I think we should do the fallowing to adress this and make chopper evac more of an intense moment in major hot zones when their is enemy rifle fire comeing at your chopper:
One: Add a blur effect that makes the chopper a bit obscured if you stand up and run into the chopper. IE it would have a limit do about 10 feet around the chopper. And no it would not be anything like PRs bullet blur that makes it impossable to see. I'm thinking more along the lines of what EA did with VBF2 a simple easy to use effect that makes it so until your with in 2 feet of the chopper you can't see perfectly.
This way we get the effect of the slow and intense "get to the bird!" moment as well as the "I made it!" part and the quick hop in and give cover fire from the seat idea becomes viable in combat. Also it means the chopper would have to spend more time on the ground and less time in the air, as is a real problem in pickups in a hot zone in real life.
All of that and it would make door gunners have more of a chance to hit targets and get some points other then just sitting and blazeing at fare off targets as the chopper flys so fast you can't hit jack squat.
I posted this in the Chopper Dust thread and thought I would see how chopper fans: IE Black Hawk lovers, and Huey fans would like to have a bit more of a team effort for take off and landings in hot zones.

I don't know much but how would you stop the disoriented look from people in the chopper opposed to just outside?

Well, people can't get suppressed in vehicles, vanilla-style or PR-style, so once they're inside, the effects will wear off and won't happen again.

True. This is the whole point of my post^^ The player sees no issues with getting in and out of a chopper. With dust and BF2s vary conservitave blur effect there would be at least some some danger to getting in and out of a chopper mid combat.Cyrax-Sektor wrote:Well, people can't get suppressed in vehicles, vanilla-style or PR-style, so once they're inside, the effects will wear off and won't happen again.
IE those only two feet from the chopper can't see well, those ten feet would have to cover them while they make their way to the rest of the squad. It forces the squad, and chopper pilot to work together as a team, as well as makes the door gunner for a chopper a vary much needed tool for defence while the team gets out of the aircraft. IMHO if we could make it so you can only get one person at a time in a chopper or two max at a time then you would have a much more realisitc chopper dust off, and landing idea.
It takes about 8 seconds for a full squad of six men to pile out of a chopper, and it takes about 10 seconds for them to get back in. I just wan't to make chopper pilots have to land a good distance from the target zone, or risk the squad and chopper getting the snot kicked out of it.
Right now choppers don't have these issues they do in real life due to the fact that they can see where they are, and even a low almost landed hover has no dust to obscure the pilots view at all like in real life.

This dust, the thing is at the moment it is there all the time you are on the ground. Does it need to subside after a while? Not sure how possible that is.

Sorry Gunwing, was answering Grizzly's post. I got your point.
I like this idea, adds realism, and if the players wisen up, they'll think twice before running straight to a helicopter.

Actually, no. The choppers are way too big for that. A Blackhawk, for example, is about 16 feet tall. A Huey is about 14. And a Littlebird - which is probably the smallest chopper in PR - is almost 10 feet. So, unless you're 12 feet tall, you can stand upright under the choppers. You can even do a little jump and dance.Gunwing wrote: two Rotor blades: This is my biggest pet peeve right now in PR. More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

Didnt we have rotors that could kill ppl in one of the earlier PR versions? But IIRC it was removed for some reason.

i think it be better if you got killed when you stand behind a jet exhast, i think the dust will improve chopper extractions somewhat, but im not sure if your other idea will work.

Re: Idea to make choppers Extraction a team effort
True I had a feeling that the second part of the idea may or may not work in the game well. Note due to the engine limits, but due to the players who like things as they are. But your right that if you stand next to a jet as it's engines are up you should at least take some damage and be surppresed for a bit. IE it would mean that you need to stand clear of the runway and help act as a warrning to the TKing snobs who like to stand behind the jet and shoot at it 24/7 after it lifts off.SuperTimo wrote:i think it be better if you got killed when you stand behind a jet exhast, i think the dust will improve chopper extractions somewhat, but im not sure if your other idea will work.
IMHO we need a heat wave effect for tanks, jets, and heavy mounted weapons. IE 12.7mm and up should have some type of small heat wave from their barrel as they shoot off rounds at the enemy.
