Remove Ability to Lock Squads....

Post by Isaristh »

One of my favorite servers I play this game on has a rule where you HAVE to join a squad or you get kicked in an alotted time period. I like this but it sucks when I join and all the good squads are full and the ones that arent are....LOCKED.

You might say "Well mkae your own." Thats nice, but unfortunatley for me I have no mic, no mic = no VOIP, also im not the BEST leader and it kinda sucks when its a 1 man squad. No Rally points, no teamwork, no fun.

Its these jerks who lock squads when they are just 1 manned, or 3 guys and they lock it (not even in the same clan -_-). So in other words in this situation I get....SCREWED. Of course if i need ill make my own squad (just so i dont get kicked) and frequently check if there are any opening in a good one, but the fun is still just...gone.

So please, remove the ability to lock a squad...

Nah, locking squads *is* a useful function - like when you're got 5 pubbies all working together brilliantly and one gets a dropped connection, it's handy to be able to keep their spot open until they make it back.

I'd rather had a squad locked in the first place than get kicked if people know they're going to invite people. Obviously I understand why they're doing it, and I'm fine with it, although its nice to explain why your kicking someone.

Also, you may have all you need to do what you want to do with your squad, like sabotage missions etc, too many people decreases the chance of it actually coming off, you only need 2 people per chopper in a chopper squad, etc.

Sorry, but I disagree with this suggestion. Locked squads are useful, especially for air asset squads who don't fill the whole roster. You can't afford to have too much chatter over the channel that is not directed towards your goal. Make a new squad, suck it up, and when someone joins the squad, leave and come back.

But leaving and coming back is just as bad... learn SL tips and tricks maybe?

It is rather important on clan servers, clamm8s want to play together in the same squad and not have random pubs enter it.

But I agree, one man squads = FAIL

So... the Devs should alter PR in a fashion that improves your and very few other's gaming experience at the expense of convenience for everybody else? Awesome. The reason people lock squads is because they want to play with a select group of people and not random pubbies. Random pubbies who cry about locked squads and how THEY are not having the time of their life and it's all the SL's fault also have a pretty low chance of getting into such squads and suck just as hard if not harder than locked one man squads.

This little feature is indispensable for any SL that wants to play with: Clan members, friends, good players, selected individuals, keeping slots open and reserved for whatever reason, or the main reason which is keeping people he doesn't want out of the squad.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Hell no.

ProTip: Get a mic, use VOIP, and more SL's will instantly like you.

Your attitude really is not needed. Take it easy.

To OP, if need be just make a squad and when someone comes in, leave and come back. Only takes a second. And you should also get a MIC only 30 USD will get you a nice one.

No need to get personal, little buddy. My sunny disposition and honest words should be stimulating your mind with their wisdom and bringing a smirk to your face, not inciting cold prickles of anger in your heart.

Rather than throw up another post, I'll respond to Tirak's post below mine in this one.

Being SL is often a pain in the ***, depending on who you're leading and how you're feeling at the time. I feel ya.

If it's at the beginning of the round and there's only one or two other people in the squad, it doesn't really matter. While it is funny to watch Hot Patato Squad Leader, eventually someone takes and the Squad gets ruled by committee. I've gotten stuck with being SL enough times to know, sometimes you don't want the hassel of ordering everyone around.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't need to lock squads.

In the real world, there's some TKing mouthy smacktard ruining the game on purpose, and he decides to go in your squad. By association, many will believe you condone this behavior if this dolt is in your squad, and the administration doesn't know you to be a good player or a bad visitor.

An SL can still be effective with no mic. If people don't follow your orders, that's their problem. One time I was stuck with the job after Hot Potato Squad Leader (lovely naming btw), but my squad mates knew how to follow orders and followed. I guess a mic-less leader is better than tasked with the job of SL after a hard day.

Remember everyone here is playing for a good time with teamwork. Most servers have a rule vs 1 man locked squads. Each SL has a reason for locking from friends joining or to just have better comms with mates. Most of the time its better for a team to see a 3 man locked squad than a 6 man unlocked squad. And isn't it hardcoded?

No need to get cocky, he was just pointing out that your tone nd attitude wasn't helping. Furthermore it's against the forums code of conduct to speak in such a manner, so you might wanna watch it for you own good otherwise your gonna start getting warned.

People have pretty much pointed out all the reasons why it's needed, apart from the whole teamspeak issue where it's kinda annoying thing someone not on teamspeak in squad.

specific role squads need to be locked IMO, if theres a heli squad for 3 helis, 3 guys will fly and 3 others will be in the squad for no reason, ask for a RP, run around doing nothing when they could be ALOT more use in a infantry squad.

Well, the only reason my squad locks up is when we get that constant drone of peeps coming in that wanna run the squad...poor SL is trying to coordinate and you get that constant "I think we should make a rally point here, I think we need to do this, that," and then the SL says "you wanna make the decisions, then go and make your own squad".

This is then followed up by the teammate telling us his real life military experience, yadda, yadda, then going into expletives....while this goes on, no one can concentrate and then we all begin dying because of lack of concentrtation from all the dissing on coms. While the SL is away trying to kick the unruly, he cannot lead, and we die....

To those of you who fit this category, if you dont wanna be led and have your own ideas, then start a squad and lead, otherwise, stay out. I have been in squads when asked for suggestions by the SL, then, and only then, do I give my opinion. Yes, we are a team, but in the heat of combat is not the right time to try and muscle your opinions across, it only gets us killed in the end. If you can adopt that way of thinking, then the squad will remain unlocked for you to enjoy...PR is a serious mod that should not be looked at as "just a game"...there is always vanilla if you wanna play like that.

Please keep the lock options available...I have seen servers that forbid locking....thats the way it should be....

Transport choppers I will grant you, but one man squads cannot request a spec ops kit. Although one guy can still perform recon, he would be better spent as part of a conventional fireteam since he has a conventional kit.

Hm.. I've had locked one man squads with the specops kit doing recon for me a couple of times when i was commander. The guy probably joined another squad and requested that kit.

When ever you do SF(Jabal) get a 3 man squad. 1 Flies Huey, and other 2 get SF kits. Deadly combo. And when pilot is not transporting you he gets the rest of the team where they need to be. helps alot when your being chased by a APC. :D

Without a locked pilot/transport/armor squad you end up with a sniper, heavy AT and various other useless people just taking up kits and sitting at main base because they don't have a rally or objective.

Btw have you (OP) ever tried asking to get into a locked squad? When I'm doing sabotage with only one other person I usually welcome a third in a large game for the rally.
