Finite Countermeasures (Five-plus ! are a sign of mental instability, by the way)
Hello, As a pilot, I am (not omplaining) but a bit tired of people just so used to Vanilla that when I attempt to dogfight them they just drop Chaff/infared countermeasures(radar fooling/infared fooling flares) anmd then using their afterburners until they find me again and I chase them and they drop their chaff/decoy flares again(I say both because the AMRAAMs lock onto them even though they are flares). I believe that if the amount of countermeasure flare-chaff is fixed like the amount of round for the cannon(s) then that will add some more realism to the game. (I cannot return and make bullet points for some reason, computer breaking on me so just bare with me) pros: Players(in aircraft) are no longer just the vanilla noob who jumps in the jets and learns that its the same in PR, apply flares and afterburner, a slight turn to the right/left and then you're free of your persuer!! no, this will force the player to learn or make up manuvers like real life, I personally use as little countermeasure as I can. I usually only do a few simple manuvers and since my opponents aren't pilots(just people who are flying) they have no experience and it is not as fun as a gun battle. In Vanilla I lived for Dogfights and loathed gun battles. Now....I love gun battles(THANKS PR TEAM!!!!!
) nut I get bored in the air prety quickly since the enemy flyers don't apply manuvers.......only flares and afterburner, vanilla style! But if the number of flares is specified(even a high number is okay) then that would make true dogfighters happy, make the jets more realistic, and make people who think of getting in a dogfighter have to learn more moves than just flares and afterburner to deal with foes.

if we could do it in a good user friendly way we would have done it.
the only way it could be possibly done is to remove the flares from the "x" key, and then add a new secondary weapon (like bombs or missiles) which launched flares, then give that a ammo count. So to deploy flares you would have to switch off bombs or missiles, then drop them, which by the time you have heard the lock tone, switched from the missiles, maybe passing though bombs to get to flares, you would be dead.
also can you please give good titles to your topic, have 20x ! makes you look like your a 12yr old trying to get attention.

1.If you put that many "!!!!" in the title i will personally hunt you down and kill you.
2. Just folow after the enemy jet till hes out of flares (shouldnt take longer than a minute) or simply gun him down with your cannon. Its there for a reason

Sounds like a reasonable balance to infinite flares

Well, let it be set to a number on the keyboard like all weapons are and then simply have the pilot learn which button it is... you shouldnt be scrolling through your weapons, instead hit the numbers..
Or is that method not possible here? Like infantry, instead of scrolling through, simply hit the 3 key for the rifle... etc.

Then make it limited and don't add ammo counter to the planes. I don't think you really need it after all. And you can still add it to choppers instead of the ammo counter for aa missiles.
Afaik you can do that, and you won't have to switch anything.

It should be possible. Just give the new "weapon" an item index. But, the choppers have the AA missiles as secondary weapon, but as jets already have the cannon + missiles/bombs it's impossible I think
Again, I'm just guessing/thinking, correct me if I'm wrong.

Flare launcher is already a firearm, afaik you can just set the ammount of mags to 1 and the flares will be limited. So you don't have to replace any secondary weapon.brummy.uk wrote:(Not that I know anything about this)

The problem is that you won't see how many flares you got left. I'm just saying that I don't think it's really that important.
And you can replace the AA-missiles counter for choppers with flare counter because you only have 2 missiles and knowing how many are left shoudn't be a problem.

Or you have like 3 or 5 flares on X and another flare "weapon" with more ammo and better reloading, and ammo count.
So in an emergency, you'd press X, and the 5 flares would be released, giving you enough time to switch to the flare weapon again.
Just a quick idea.

Ok, here. The player can fire countermeasures at any moment with 'x' key but he can also check their ammo status by pressing the '2' key. While weapon 2 is selected AA misiles cannot be fired. Hydra rockets can be fired at any time.

edit: also, I can make aa-missiles able to be fired at any moment just like flares. So you will switch between ammo-counters not weapons.(not sure if it'll work though)

But as a minor suggestion there should be Flares and Chaff as different things, so the AMRAAMs(RADAR guided) are not off set from the enemy jet by infared countermeasures.
Or just have small pieces of metal appear along with the Flares so it will off-set but the Infared missiles and the AMRAAMs.(minor suggestion)
But I suggest that the flares are like those in POE2(only limited and do not recharge).
They are numbered so if you hold onto it then the flares will keep comming out until you run out;

Not like that, where you have 200 flares, but where you can drop 1 flare and manuver, or drop 10 and make a gentle turn, taunting the enemy persuer!(but watch out for his cannon!)

The way the BF2 engine handles seaking weapons means that the AMRAAM missiles lock onto the heat signature of the enemy jet. The game doesn't have any form of radar system for weapons, just heat sources. It's been suggested many many times before that the longer-range missiles shouldn't be decoyable by flares, but that's too bad.
