sniper. Why can we get found so easy?

Post by sav112 »

Hi I have a quick question to find out if its just a limited game engine or Bad code….

Playing a sniper…..

Why is it no matter how well I’m camouflaged, thought about placement that’s not the obvious first choice, careful about creeping into position and never fire off multiple rounds quickly.

The minute I fire say the second or third shot the enemy can find me instantly even if I’ve not shot at them. Reason I ask is last night I took a shot and killed a player only for an enemy player come bounding out of a hut turn and know exactly my position….

Does the sound give away too much in game?

On some maps a combination of sound, rifleman scopes and fog can make it hard for snipers to operate far enough away to stay well hidden, especially as grass doesent render at distance. At close range you are well camoflaged in grass etc, especially if you dont move, and at VERY long range you are too, due to the fog, but in between you can stand out very easily if you arent careful. Qwai River springs to mind, but you just have to be more hit and run. I had a brilliant game on Qwai the other day tracking squads then pegging it to a helo extraction once they'd got a fix on me. The only death I had was typically a tk......

Other maps you have enough range to stay hidden from all but the most hawk eyed of players, and the sound is not so easy to pinpoint. Oh, and dont sit on top of hills :)

dont sit on the top of a hill and flare up. Go into areas that are the same colour you are, and generally conceal yourself with objects. Sitting behind a log or in front of it is a good idea. I say in front as you will blend in with the log quite well. Also never make any sharp movements, if some one is looking in your direction, stay still.

Was on OGT yesterday just as a rifleman, the rest of my squad was killed and I stayed alive for like 10mins with a squad trying to hunt me down as they knew I was around, and I just kept on picking them off one by one and some times they where right next to me.

I do try but suspect it’s the Rendering. When I say on top of a hill I’m not at the top but usually a bit lower. On the maps with huge expanses of trees its never a problem but I must emit I must trust the grass to much.

Thanks for the few pointers.

Those big bushes render at far greater distances than the undergrowth. I suggest you use this fact to your advantage.

You gotta be smarter than the game, it's not real life so don't play it like it is. Shoot through cracks, don't silhouette yourself (shooting from hill crests and roofs), and always remember the golden rule, if you can see them they can see you; so when you shoot you MUST break the line of sight. I never use the sniper kit but I snipe people all day with the rifleman kit, you don't need to move your location if you are disciplined and can force yourself to take 1 guy and vanish for a few min and by doing so you will miss out on more potential kills but your anonymity will remain intact, which means you stay alive and can take more shots over all.

Some of those are actually bulletproof so you can use that to an even bigger advantage
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience ;)

Quinlin the other night, I stumbled upon an enemy sniper luring on the slopes above Coal Mine...

Stabbed him and took his rifle...

Noticed the enemy had a RP in a building near Coal...

Picked off a large number of enemy troops during the following minutes, it was the most successful round as a sniper I have ever played I think...

I manged to stay alive because the enemy was busy skirmishing with my team mates. Had they not been, I imagine they would have spotted me quickly.

If you're a sniper; find some place where the enemy is preoccupied with fighting others. Try to fire when the enemy soldiers are in such a position that if you slot them, they will think they were killed by some ordinary PBI with an assault rifle...

What I don't like about the engine is it seems that dynamic lighting doesn't work on players. Meaning you are in a dark unlit building yet you are still fullbright as if a lightbulb follows you around everywhere and are easy as hell to spot.

Two most important sniper revealers in PR are player movement and game engine draw distance. If you move, you will be spotted. Period. Even the slightest move can be seen far, far away no matter the undergrowth you are trying to mix in. This combined to game engine habit to render players much farther than terrain and vegetaion mean that player is still visible when terrain is already clipped off.

So if you are hiding behind a distant hilltop, for other players it looks like you would be hanging in the air over slighly lower hilltop. Proned soldier figure against bright sky is not hard to spot.

Depend on which map you play. Takes a while to figure out the sniper spots.

Meh most people play sniper as if this was BF2, almost all snipers I kill in PR with an assault rifle are in range of a pistol sometimes, just today I had a sniper rushing uphill on Jabal, placed a G3 round in his chest and he even took time to stop and aim at me while I already got one shot at him, next one dropped him for good.

A great way to stay alive is just move up with a SF guy(Spotter and CQB protection) and have him us grapleing hook to get on buildings you otherwise cant get on. then have fun.

A good sniper always tries to be as far away from his target as his rifle/view will allow him.

Same holds true for PR.

Find some good spots on a local server. Test out where the rifle will hit from that range. Keep a mental range card based on pixels/in game meters. Always have bunkers/buildings/target areas designated with a call sign or code word for you and your spotter. You should discuss what the terrain and area is like before you pull the trigger.

The main reason why you are being spotted so fast is because the damage indicator gives away your position unless you hit with a headshot. The enemy you just shot will then inform the rest of his squad in which direction he was shot through VOIP, and when they know where to look you're not safe at all.
So try keeping your fire limited to headshots. They will never know what hit them and most important: never know where from.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading

I can hear/know the difference between a rifleman shooting at me or a sniper.
