PR overload PC

Post by Sir.Saul »

Hey guys, been playing PR since version 5 and watched forums since version 6 I think.
Never really signed up, for had nothing really to post about since all these brilliant minds... and devs... (cough) post ideas- and answers that I wont be thinking of in this lifetime.

Anyway story for you:
-Just got back from 3 weeks pause of PR. yesterday I was playing on my cr*ppy WORK pc, went well except.. suddently there were a foul stench, like burned plastic. Kinda already knew it was from my pc, but.. PR round went so well, I had to play on... Didn't really care for my wrecked pc, outdated and such, had settings on low, had to priority it to realistic, in other words only 1 gb ram, 7300 nvidia...
Anyway i kept playing, went well, squad took up heavy fire on north village on kashan desert with vodnik 50 cal fire, the smell still comming and BAM!!!
Electricity went out, smoke came out of my pc and I was like "SH*T!" not that i was sad over the pc, it was rather the chock of the table bomb that went off at my feet, and ofcourse the smoke...
Don't know what could have caused this? Never happened before, I don't blame pr, but pr does kill ram and I think that could be it + I pust the computer to it limits and such.
But not here to flame PR, ofcourse not, finally I realized the world outside! First day light hurt me, but afterwards felt comfortable

But thanks to the burn down I finally got my self togheter, found a gamer pc in an announce, not to expensive but still good enough to run dark messiah on high, got 3 gb ram, quad core, ati radeon HD 3200, not the best, but good enough for my taste.

Anyway now I am all happy except that... My freaking battlefield 2 disc is in the old computer! MAN! opened the side of the pc, looks fine in the electronic and such, so I guess it was the electricity power thingy that went, so I wont be shattering it from bits just to get my disc out which I somehow think could have taken damage from the little explosion, so won't be playing PR for some time, even though I've downloaded PR core and stuff already, just need to ask my mates if they have an old BF 2 copy, I have to buy a new, or wait for my old pc to get fixed and see how the disc is doing...

But anyway cheers pr for blowing up my pc, I like the new one way better and can't wait to get back PR style...

-Side note- No I don't truly believe that it was PR that did it but have to get credit to some ;) ... So hello community and thanks pr for overloading and thank YOU for reading.

you cant blame PR for blowing up your PR, as PR is part of BF2 and when you installed BF2 you agreed that EA/DICE/BF2 would not take any responsibility for w/e effect it may have on your PC, read it if you dont believe me :p

Anyways ye, sorry to hear that but ehhh, you can get the CD out of the drive without any power. There should be a tiny little whole in the front of the CD drive, its normally above the volume bit or near there. Anyways, if you get a paper clip, twist it so its strait and stick it in that whole, you can push a button that will open the drive a little, then you can pull it out, its standard feature on all CD drives, never seen a CD drive without it.

hope that helps :)

most cd/dvd roms have a little hole on the front panel. This is really a mechanical Eject button.. all you do is find something like a needle or something that fits in the hole and push.. Maybe this can help you get back on the battlefield in time ;) If your ROM dosn't have a hole like this you can always connect a power cord from the new pc to the cd/dvd rom and open it in the usual way :) GLHF

Uuh, sounds great, been busy using tools to pull that b*stard out but didnt want to go too far to wreck down the hole d*mn thing. :D

@Rhino, Nah I'dd rather say thanks for freeing my mind for 1 day than blame you ;)

Oh and btw I tried to get the power back on it for 2 sec, blew up again, electricity didn't go out again as last time.. But i must admit, having a tiny PC bomb kinda cool :P
I'm more laughing over the loss than crying.. It's not like it is wasted milk or smth like that.

That Radeon 3200 won't give you that much better performance over what you had :|
Anyway, I'm surprised you played when you were smelling burnt plastic..I guess that was your power supply dying slowly.

hehe, ye I knew you wheren't blaming us I just said that cos I always find it funny that Game / Sofatware compines get ppl to sign such agreements when installing there programs. Anything else like if your cooker blew up and messed up your house or something you would be able get to pay for damages etc but with computers its not the case :p

no, oh and actually announce said 3650 radeon, but when i turned on the pc, it said 3200, also in dxdiag it says 3200. So have to complain bout' that.

What to say? Didnt like the pc even if it smells of burned plastic, know that it was idiotic thing to do but hey cool explosion, hallo!?! :D
... nah I should have turned it off.. Or better ejected the disc before it went out cause can't find the needle spot thingy as explained above, only found the main eject button but that don't work ofcourse.

Download bf2 and use your cdkey. My CD stopped working a looooong time ago but as long as you get a good iso for bf2 and a good img for playing the game you dont need a CD.

-downloaded.

-Used CDKEY

-Mounted it ofcourse on a virtual driver

But apparently when I've installed the game and press the icon (just the vbf2 to start with) and it keeps asking me to insert a disc even though I got it mounted.

And I obviously can't crack the game since PB will kick me from online games = Corrupted .exe file..

Tried burning the ISO file to disc but apparently did it wrong and burned the ISO file only so nothing happens when inserting it to the pc, and it was a dvd-r which can't be erased rest of its digital life.

Any ideas? getting awefully desperate.. And the girls don't sure like that..

DAEMON Tools is the answer. Download it, find a good BF2 .iso (FTP download, torrent .isos are not trustworthy), download that, and mount it using DAEMON Tools. Not only do you get to spare yourself the trouble of burning the thing to disc, there are no PB problems, as the CD key is left intact and the .exe is untampered.

If your computer is anything like mine at all, you'll have no problems, and the BF2 splash screen will even disappear instantly, being that there's no physical disk for the PC to read in the first place.

I don't mean to proselytize for DAEMON Tools - if you know an alternative to help our friend Saul, feel free to post it in spite of me.

Hey thanks for the quick response.

Why should Daemon tools be any diffrent from MagicDisc? Tried poweriso but when I mount it with it, nothing really happens so guess that is ****
Downloaded 2 diffrent torrents from Piratebay (GOD I feel criminal :P ..... nah :D )
both isos but from diffrent source.

But I will try and get Daemontools and mount with that to see if that works.

But would be awesome if you could recommend a "good BF2 .iso" cause I don't know what else :D

Download the BF2 mini-image from gamecopyworld.com, and mount it using DAEMON TOOLS instead of the thing you have downloaded when running BF2, thats how I run the game without disc inside/PB being alright.
Make sure BF2 is patched to 1.41 or whatever the newest patch is :)

About the graphics card: for the sake of simplicity, go with nVidia. Their rating system is so clearly delineated, my dog could probably choose the better card for a certain purpose. My recommendation is a mobile 8600, if it's available. Nothing below a 600 series - anything below the 600s is a waste of money, in my opinion.

lol!!! Your computer starts smoking and you keep playing?! You're crazy lol.

Anyways I can't accept that you can't find the eject hole in your cd drive! I have 1 possible answer to this - Perhaps you have one of those lame pc's that has like a facade on the front of it. Those types of case have some fancy (ie: stupid) looks and buttons of it's own on the front, and behind that is just a normal cd drive.

Now the PC is destroyed anyways, so tear it apart! :D It would not be very difficult at all to remove the cd drive from the computer, just need to get the case open and then unscrew the cd drive. Then you can easily rip off the front cover of the cd drive and even the drive door. If you still can't find a hole for the paper clip, then get needle nose pliers and pull out the tray. If that doesn't work then you could literally disassemble the cd drive :p I'd love to do that **** :p
