Hit or miss?
I have been doing quite a bit of tanking with a close friend of mine. I am always the driver and my friend is the gunner. Anyways I don't know if this has been brought up or not so please go easy on me as I am only trying to help. What I have noticed is when we spot a tank and my gunner fires on it I noticed that he was missing a lot, although he says it was a hit and I tend to believe him because he usually tanks down enemy tanks in 2-3 APFSDS rounds. So I guess my question is if anyone else has noticed that tank round hits tend to look like misses through the drivers perspective. Is this some sort of bug or is this the way the Devs have designed it. I wouldn't think the few inches of height between the gunner and drivers perspectives would be that different to make every shot look like a miss.

Re: Hit or miss?
Its a bug, and Im pretty sure if the gunner sees it hit, he has hit. Just because the driver sees a miss/hit doesnt mean it is so. [This is all speaking with hit detection problems aside, because those are another story]
It has to do with the turn speed of the tanks barrel and that of the gunners view. From what I understand they arent the same[??], so the gunner, who is shooting out the center of his screen, at what he is aiming, appears[to the driver] to be shooting out of where the barrel shows on HIS screen, which is slightly incorrect.
Also, I think this can be worsened by a gunner spinning the tank turret around and around in one direction, making the difference between the two views greater with each revolution..
Thats all not 100% sure on my part, but its what I remember hearing/understanding from a while back

I think it's rather same old crappy hit-detection. Don't know though.

ObjectTemplate.regulatePitch -0.08/0.55
And the barrel has
ObjectTemplate.regulatePitch -0.08/1
And since ObjectTemplate.tracerConvergeDistance for the projectile is -1, you get a difference in where you shoot and where other ppl see you hit.
ObjectTemplate.regulatePitch should be equal for both hud_spring and the barrel. It's very easy to fix as you can see.

Yeah, no doubt. Can we get a RDEV to take a look at this. If what [R-CON]Mosquill posted is a good fix then it would be added ASAP for the next test build release.

Re: Hit or miss?
If someone wants to be super helpful, we need confirmation that this only applies to the Abrams. Since that was the only tank that needed Mosquills proposed fix....
Any takers?

Re: Hit or miss?
so are you saying that do anyother tank drivers see that the gunners miss their targets?[R-DEV]Jaymz wrote:If someone wants to be super helpful, we need confirmation that this only applies to the Abrams. Since that was the only tank that needed Mosquills proposed fix....

I think so it applies to all of them. Not 100% percent sure but i remember in .7 (not .75) they all had that for sure.

Re: Hit or miss?
It applies to all of them as I've seen missed shots as driver that are confirmed hits as gunner. When I question them on it to be certain they are and the tank is destroyed in only one more shot. This has happened in the Abrams, Challenger 2, PLA and MEC Tanks. I do not remember if the Militia tank is the same way.

Re: Hit or miss?
I'm not sure but I think the same bug is on the APC too!
Sometime I team up with Sabre_tooth_tiger and he tell me that I should aim lower... but my shot always seems to hit the enemy APC but my driver keep telling me to shot lower..? This happens at very far distance tho!
Am I right?

Re: Hit or miss?
I had this problem with the BTR, so maybe it happens in the APCs also.

Re: Hit or miss?
Does seem like the proposed "fix" needs to be applied on APCs as well. Does make sense, since I've noticed some dodgy APC shooting myself.[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote:I had this problem with the BTR, so maybe it happens in the APCs also.
