[Static Model] My first attempt - A Chinese Post Box

Well, i decided i would try making, texturing and importing a basic static.

So, after a quick google, i found this, and thought 'perfect, a nice simple model that even a n00b modeler like me can make':

So, after a few hours, here it is in max:

And after a few more hours, in the BF2Editor:

Now there have been a few problems, the biggest is that ingame it is only 3cm tall, but thankfully i already know how to fix that.

I also haven't really made the most efficient use of the BF2 static texturing system, and i couldn't get the crack/decal layer to work so i put them on the detail texture instead.
I used a vBF2 texture for the colour, and made my own detail texture, albeit a big one for such a small object at 256x512.

But hopefully, this is the start of bigger and better things!



EDIT - Static No. 2

After about 30 mins in max i have come up with my second static, a simple concrete bench. Should be ready for export soon. Texture's a bit lacking though, i'll work on it.

I think i might make a pack of simple city environment statics.

I think so, its just Map Materials in the tweaker bar right? The material name i set in max shows up there and i just matched it with the BF2 material, in this case Metal_solid

indeed it is :) if the materials are missing its not good, just wanted to make sure :P

I remember doing a two story enterable house once, and I forgot to give the stairs "stair material"... I tell you it was a struggle jumping up a very steep stair formed "hill" :P

nice work there, next step is working out how to use texture pallets :D

only took me 9 months from my first static (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f66-co ... tatic.html) to get to where I am now :D

aww, cute :P I see some of the front faces have been stretched pretty good.

anyways, like I've said before, let me know if you need any help with some statics for mutt v2. During the summer I have plenty of time.
