Local vs. dedicated settings

Post by Outlawz7 »

I am wondering, if anyone has noticed that most weapons in PR behave different when using them on a local server than on a dedicated live server?

For example, everyone knows how G3 was utterly nerfed back in 0.708, you couldn't hit a thing with it on servers due fubar'd deviation, yet when using it on LAN I could fire it on full auto and it would have no deviation and very little recoil.

I also noticed that in-game tank shells deviate randomly, there's no stabilization pattern like rifles, where you'd sit still and they'd be 100% accurate, they just fire as they see fit, either directly on target or come out the screen a few millimeters off the cross hair and hit something in the middle of nowhere 1 Km away.
So I went on a local server and all the shells I fired, were 100% accurate even after I got the tank to drive itself around using that 'ghost vehicle bug' so I could see if movement affects accuracy.

So why is that?

perhaps Ping/lag on the server? in vBF2 I could get on a local server and knife a bot, and it'd work fine, online there'd be a ~.5 second lag between knife and kill (if there was one, and this was a .050 lag server [50 ping])

because LAN dont need to rely on the net code deid dose. It is surprising how long it takes coders starting out to get that something that works on local will probably not work on deid :p

Also on local right now we have choppers that spin out of control when they reach there damage level thou we just cant get it to work on dedi.

Yep, IIRC, the deviation depends on how many people are in the server. Less people, the more accurate you are. Not sure if it has changed since the patch though, but it was like that in v.7.

Deviation is dependent on server frame rate.
