This topic is about COs' usage of sniper/sabotage squads. Was first planning to put this in the CO tactics forum but figured it's more of a discussing than a worked out tactic really.
Please, don't tell your sniper/sabotage squad to capture/defend a flag! There's no way a sniper or sabotage (if it's small) squad can defend a flag on their own. An enemy squad would wipe them out easily.
Obviously these kind of squads wants to do sniping, giving intel of enemy movements or go around destroying enemy bunkers and firebases. Why ruin it for them? And most importantly, why not take advantage of it? A sniper squad (with a spec ops using SOFLAM) can be very deadly to infantry as well as to armor when lasing targets. Spotting enemy vehicles going in various directions or enemy spawns such as RPs, bunkers or firebases isn't all too bad either. And wouldn't it be great to have a sabotage squad at the ready to head out as soon someone spots an enemy spawn?
People seem to neglect the potential of these kind of squads and some says "Sometimes a sniper squad isn't needed to win". Well, since when did PR folks play for points? In my opinion it's the teamwork and that everyone do their best that counts. Not to win the game, actually I couldn't care less about it (thus not saying that I'm not working for the team's best). And if there's any truth in the neglection of these squads' potential, maybe there should be some changes to make them very usefull.
A great tip for COs using special squads!

I play for points tbh.
I agree with your sentiment, though; sometimes we DM guys run specialized units and occasionally a commander isn't fully aware of what his orders actually mean.

No one wants to have their force arranged to lose, it would make no sense, as a commander you want to have all the available assets and have the freedom to choose what squads do what and pick these roles in a way which will be more beneficial for the entire team (and by beneficial I mean, give them the best chance of obtaining a win).

It's not about arranging your forces to loose but to actually use what you got. Why even have special kits when they only can be used when the game is going good?

Oh, I thought when you meant "special" squads you were talking about pubbers in general
But every soldier no matter his rank or class does soldiering first. A body with a rifle, is a body with a rifle. They can tip the scales and help you keep a flag.
Plus, many squads change roles during the game to suit. So a squad title might not represent their active role all the round.

In general I've found 'special squads' made up of pubbers to be real buggers, they got the kit for the weapon not the purpose.
But your tips are good if you have a special squad made up of people you trust, especially on a map like qwai where knowing the position of anti tank assets / tank assets is paramount.
