Wounded casualties

After looking at the medic changes in the DEV journal and being very very happy about the concept it got me thinking about some small changes from the casualties POV

As I understand in 0.8 respawning is different, the timer is longer so that a medic can get to the casualty, however the casualty effectivly has a 'suicide' button to reduce the wait time but not allow a medic to 'revive' them. This is where i was thinking that the casualty has a black screen and you are critically wounded, i could imagine that there might be a high chance of 'suiciding' thinking that a medic isn't there thus wasting the medics time and safety.

I would propose that a critically wounded soldier has a screen very much like the one before you are critically wounded, very dark but with some light so you'd be able to see a silhouette of a medic above you so you dont press the button. If it were possible you could make it so that whilst in this state you can simply pan the camera left to right to see a medic coming towards you.

Next idea was to have man down animations, so a soldier on the floor will have some small movements (legs wiggling, small arm or head movement) so the medic knows that they are still 'revivable' and haven't been killed by a headshot etc or pressed the suicide button.

I think these could add to the immersion of the game and also help out gameplay a bit.

Ideas, feedback welcome ofc

And i understand that this could be completely pointless as i was just speculating on what i've seen so far for 0.8

(though if i get the mysterious ;) from a DEV i will be so happy)

Ye I like what you're saying. Personally I'd like to be able to half see with massively blurry vision like you described and move the mouse around, but I imagine it would be quite difficult to do, especially as you go ragdoll until revive at present I think. We do have some awesome animators\coders etc now so who knows? Even more than this tho, I hope Chammy and Jaymz give a little audio love to the critically wounded state, as there is a lot of cool stuff that could be added there too....

I like the first part of your suggestion. It would be nice to see while wounded and help the medic find you. I know I've had problems telling medics where I went down.
The second idea of movement while wounded; I would think that would be very hard to code. IMO not worth the time on some Dev's part for a feature that will be rarely noticed.

Can't you just look at the map and see if there's a white circle with a red cross nearby?

I thought that, but then i remember the map blurs out all markers when critically wounded. But, when you shout 'medic!' the medic crosses may still show up, not 100% sure on that though.

yes i am aware of that, but i was thinking more for realism and immersion

i'd love to see a guy IRL wounded pull out a map, shout for a medic and then it pop up on his map with the medics location.

No, when you're bleeding out your map is blank.

When somebody is critically wounded and has pushed the LMB to call for a medis - the Medic's map shows this person a red circle with a yellow lightning bolt through it.

BTW. Is the Chammy in the sound department the same Chammy that released (unsurprisingly) "Chammy's Sound Mod - CSM" for ArmA?

idk if it's just me, but a lot of times (not all...) my LMB doesn't work :/ like im critically wounded but when i click on my LMB i dont scream for medic, and therefore the medic symbols dont show up on the map.

You can only use it like 2 or 3 times after that it doesn't work so if you were shooting rapidly at something when you died you might have used em all up right when you died. Happens to me sometimes. edit: oops off topic.... I like the blurred while critical idea but I'm not sure if turning you view while wounded is possible. Maybe when you're critical give it a fisheye view or something. stretch everything out a bit so you really cant tell any detail but it gives you a little better idea of whats going on around you.

The op regarding seeing blurred while wounded isn't a bad idea

I think the reason for the black screen, was that when you get killed, your view centers on the location you were killed from or something like that, bascially you were able to locate where you were shot from.

NOw, if there can be two different screens, one for downtime and one for "dead"time, the first being blurry, the second black, that would be ok.

Even better if the downtime screen would be at first very blurry with black and/or red (initial shock of being shot), then, as the adrenaline kicks in, you get a slightly better view, but still blurry. Finally, as blood loss is taking its toll, the screen starts to fade more and more into black, until you actually die and get the completely black "death" screen.

I like this idea, I also think that critically wounded people should be able to be finished off by the enemy. Im pretty sure its possible with bf2 engine, I heard it somewhere.

Well I like the black screen. Makes ambushin better. When you can look around while wounded ( keep in mind wounded people will stay around longer in .8 ) you can relay everything to the squad!
